Though they can have the same amount of nicotine in them, cigars are not inhaled, and have fewer chemicals in them.

cigars don't go straight to you, some are filted and some aren't. My grandpa switched to cigars, and i think he's addicted, but oh well

People do not inhale the smoke. Maybe it is just something to suck on. They are too old to suck their thumb. Maybe they have a need since they were never breast fed.
