Hello, many people put butter or mayo on both sides of the bread because they want the favour to be everywhere, but truly, it is your own opinion on where you want to put the butter/mayo. Also some people like to lick their fingers.

I just like both sides of my bread wet. Even with tuna or chicken salad which already has alot of mayo in it, I STILL will mayo both sides of the bread.

Have a lovely rest of the day.

That way you would have to squish the plain piece of bread on the piece of bread with extra butter or mayo and everything gets all messy...

It helps the sandwich stick together! Sometimes it is beneficial to butter both sides of the bread, if there is dressing or lettuce on the sandwich, as it prevents the bread from getting soggy!

i like an even placement of all sandwich contents.

when i make a PB & J, i use an evenly spread layer of both on each side of bread...
same if it's butter. and whatever is in the sandwich must also be symmetrical.

every bite should have equal parts of all ingredients as every other bite....

i'm a little OCD when it comes to sandwiches....don't mind me:)

I think most people butter or mayo just one side. I never heard of putting it on both sides. Wouldn't your hands get greasy?

Adhesive. it works as an adhseive to keep the bread stuck to the meat or lettuce or whatever, plus then one side of your bread doesn't get soggier than the other side.

Actually, I've always just put mayo or spread on one side.... until I moved to the UK. They put spread on both sides here. They use butter alot on lunch sandwiches! (YUK)
