Because im interested in buying a s-class in germany and shipping it back to America.

in germany they are half the price of what you would pay for one in america. they are made in germany silly

Don't waste your time. The cost of ocean freight, combined with the cost of conversion, will make buying a US spec vehicle right here at home cheaper by far.

To import a vehicle that was not built to US specs, it must be imported by a licensed importer. It must be a model that is sold in the US or that has been certified as being "substantially similar" to a US spec model. Changes are required to make it legal for US roads, such as changing the speedometer and odometer to read in miles, along with changes in the safety systems and components. Lastly, the emissions systems need to be changed to meet US standards. This is not possible on all models.
