yes, I agree. Until a person has spiritual realisation he/she is just a puppet on the hands of the Material, Illusory Energy, Maya.

People can be equally fanatical about either ideology. I would venture to guess, though, that it is more likely you will find a fanatical religious person than a fanatical atheist. It depends on how fervently the atheist holds to their (dis?)belief. And typically you'll have to start an argument with the atheist to get them to pipe up, whereas a large percentage of the religious fanatics will come to you first. I'm not trying to knock all the level-headed religious folk; I'm just saying that atheism is a more logic-oriented position (or so atheists tell themselves) and less prone to aggressive outreach than religious fanatics bent on making converts of all.
Personally, I think a hardline position that "there is absolutely no God, creator, higher being, spirit, or any entity outside the scope of humanity" is a bit arrogant and closed-minded. People should accept how limited the human mind truly is; if we are the top of the evolutionary ladder, it would make for a pretty bland Universe!

A fanatic is a person motivated by irrational enthusiasm (as for a cause); "A fanatic is one who can't change his mind and won't change the subject"--Winston Churchill
I am an atheist but I am not a fanatic as I do not talk enthusiastically about my beliefs none stop. I am open to suggestions and I very rarely discuss beliefs in the real world.
Not all religious people are fanatical about their religions. Some go to church almost in secret and don't mention their belief in their social and work life.
But if you're forcing me to compare then I would change the question slighty to "Out of atheists and religious people, which group is more likely to contain fanatics?". I would say the religious people. Without religion, there would be no wars and we'd all get along.

Good question!!
We are to do what we do with all our heart, souls, minds, and bodies. This is called passion. An atheist can be a fanatic or a religious person can be a fanatic. And both may be wrong. If I am so fanatic about what I believe that I decide to hate those who do not agree then I am a dangerous fanatic. It has never been about religion. It is about love.

Atheists aren't fanatics, they don't believe in anything, what's fanatical about that? They're just trying to provide a logical alternative and religious fanatics start raining fire and brimstone upon them. Religious fanatics prisoners of their own dungeon, atheists are trying to open the door for them, but they'd rather be prisoners. Oh well.

Among atheists and religious persons there are fanatics. The persons who don't use their brains may easily became fanatics. We can't say all the atheists or all the religious people are fanatics. But I think too much religion, I mean, to describe the meaning of life and all what we live, with religious references may make us fanatics...Also, not thinking but using ready patterns may lead us to fanaticism...

An atheist basically says "There is no Santa Claus". I'm not sure how such a viewpoint could be interpreted as fanatical. By disavowing religion, the atheist is freed from an artifical morality ("Oh dear, was I just coveting?!"), and is able to find their own moral compass. As an atheist, I am adamant in my belief, but certainly not fanatical about it.

A religious person is more fanatical, mainly because they're always looking to recruit new "members" (mainly for money).
Atheists don't understand the religious freaks, but they aren't out trying to change people's mind's either...unless asked.
As an example, how many times have you been invited by a complete stranger to their church versus the number of times an atheist has asked you if you want to stay home on Sunday...

I don't kindly agree with you. Because for me, a fanatic to any cause is one who blindly follows what the dogmas or fundamentals it project. Not all religious or atheist are that"hot".Maybe a suicide bomber or a kamikaze pilot or the japanese group that gassed a subway train or even a believer who adhere only to a religion for convenience because his friends are there, his job depend on it, or other ulterior motive , even when he has found out the TRUE RELIGION.

Depends on if people love other people and accept them for who they are. You can be an atheist or religious and not be a fanatic.

What a really creepy avatar! As for your question, how about sports nuts. True 'Fan-atics', which is where the word comes from. 300 lb. men with hairy man boobs prancing in front of the camera at a footy game. Now THATS a fanatic!
