Doesn't matter. It's not legal at a federal level. States can pass things all they want it is still illegal. States don't overwrite federal laws. They can only be more strict, not less.

I think what is meant here is that 11 states have *decriminalized* the possession/use of small quantities of marijuana.

That doesn't mean that it's legal, just that the fines/penalties are so minor that it's essentially legal. (For instance, in Ohio, 100 grams of marijuana is a minor misdemeanor, which is a fine of no more than $100, and the conviction record isn't public.) The word decriminalization is a reference to the fact that you can't go to jail for breaking of that law.

I think you will see more states taking a decriminalization route, but not very quickly. There are also issues with there being a federal law regulating marijuana, but the vast majority of marijuana possession prosecutions are under state laws--there really is very little federal enforcement mechanism (unless they care enough.)

I think it should be legalized for a number reasons 1. ITS GREAT 2.You have to try to overdose on it inorder to do so people accidentaly overdose on alchol and everything else all the time you would have to smoke approxtimatly 900 average size joints to overdose got that one from time magazine. 3. Crime rates would drop in pretty much every violent classifacation I mean whos going to get into a shootout with customs or a drug dealer over weed when you can go to the corner store and buy a bag just the same and you know its not laced and the quality is the same everytime. 4. Last but definatly not least it would provide a econimic boost. The "U.S" spends about 10 billion a year buying weed from mexico but the profits of U.S. drug dealers off of majaunia is only about 2 billion thats 8 billion U.S dollars turned over to mexican's a year if the U.S legalized it those numbers would go up period so if the U.S. was taxing it and it was grown here I say we would see about 4 to 6 billion boost in the economy not to mention. The extra jobs from growing, fertilizing and feterlizer development, and shipping and packageing. Also we can export it. 5. If you take all the people in jail for weed and all the people involved in putting them there and add up the annual cost I bet thats not a small amount of change. Plus time wasted looking for marajunia sellers could be used for murderers, crack dealers and everything else also there are thousands of pratical uses for hemp that we are missing out on from clothes to oil. Theres alot more but Im sure the forum wont let me type that much

Marijuana is better than cigarettes and alcohol to me (I don't smoke ciggarettes and rarely drink, but I do smoke marijuana). I've seen many family members die from smoking cigarettes and turn into a totally different person on alcohol, but my father is the greatest and nicest person on this earth and he smokes marijuana everyday.
It should be legalized, not only because I'm a smoker, but also because it would help our economy, and I truly believe that. Maybe it is easy for us to grow, but I guarantee you that I would go to the store to buy already rolled joints before i'm going to grow the plant in my backyard and roll it myself :)

It is not "legal" in any state. There are a few states that it is legal only for medicinal purposes. What do I think? I think it's a big joke.
All medicinal purposes means is the pot heads find a doctor who will recommend it for "back pain" and then they can smoke it. What a farce

I don't think it'll ever happen nationally. The lawmakers are too afraid to think outside of the box. The war on drugs isn't working. 25 years and still no improvement.

Don't care, it's a law that really eats up time that could be better used by police cracking down on other crime.

I think it should be legalized, it's not its a bad drug. Weed can't kill you. Crack, speed, herion, cocaine, LSD, and Crystal Meth can kill you. It actually improves your eyesight by 10% in some cases.
