That's a HORRIBLE incident. What I suggest is to tell the police or animal control that the lady hit the dog in the first place. That is animal cruelty which is a real crime! Dogs are naturally curious and sniff things out of instinct. That lady overreacted and when you hit a dog with a cane, you are threatening it so the dog attacks in defense. If they still want to put it asleep, show them that your dog (if this is true) has NO previous behavior problems and that this was just an accident. If the STILL want to euthanize, take the lady to court over the topic of animal abuse and maybe you will both be free of charges because of the incident. I wish the best of luck that your dog will live a long happy life!

The dog is apparently vicious. Of course had to taken the steps to control your animal instead of letting him socialize with other people this probably wouldn't have happened.
Due to your irresponsibilty the police will petition the courts to have the dog put down. Forget the animal rights people. Most of them would not have placed themselves in a situation like this. It's you that has done the dog the diservice and you may as well have killed him/her yourself with your irresponsible actions.
The best is yet to come my friend. Watch your mail or wait for the knock on the door from a judicial marshall serving you with an intent to sue notice. You can bet that's coming down the pike.
By the way...what does The Hamptons have to do with anything. other than apparently you'll probably have more money to shell out then the "have-nots".
And kepteen...you're a simpleton. Keep your dogs on a leash when in public. God....this place is chock full of idiots. Heaven help us all!

I agree with the others, biting someone is no accident, the dog meant to do it. Pit Bulls are a notoriously violent breed. Several years ago a law was passed in the UK that all dangerous breeds be muzzled in public. Sounds like a good idea to me. As for your dog, it must pay the consequences for it's actions and in the process someone else may be spared the same fate as the lady it attacked

Pit Bulls are looked differently than other dogs, at least in Ohio, you have to have a special permit and requirements for containment. If a bite/attack happens, the dog is usually killed.
Sorry. hope you are able to come to some sort of understanding with the police, but I doubt it. They may exchange the death penalty for a hefty fine or payment to the injured party. But I doubt they will let you stay in the city limits with the dog.

People who give dogs a bad name by being horrible owners make me sick. Is it news to you that pit bulls have a bad reputation. Scare the crap out of people. And if aggravated, the best pet will snap. It is YOUR fault.
If the dog is still in your possession, perhaps you can find someone who lives far away willing to take it. Then be willing to do whatever it takes to deny where the dog is.
You need to protect your pets. That means not putting them in positions like this. A Pit Bull for God sakes!!!

I'm afraid you probably should've called your dog before he got so close to an elderly lady... Pit bulls unfortunately have a reputation and you have a hard sell on your hands. It is likely they will make you put him down by court order. Few people really understand that pits can be nice. Good luck, but be prepared for the worst.

You may have no choice... if you seriously want to save him look at the dog laws for your area see if there is anything about provoking the dog to bite in defense (he was hit!). Hope you find something... but you should have not let him go up to a stranger... maybe the women was scared of dogs. Keep a tight leash from now on.

I am so tired of irresponsible owners allowing their animals to bite, run loose, and breed indescriminately. People like you are the reason they are able to pass all the horrific anti-animal laws that the rest of us have to deal with.
If you are not responsible enough or are not smart enough to handle a dog, then DON"T GET ONE!
Biting someone in the face is not "over-reacted a little", whether struck first or not. How sad that your dog will have to pay the price, its your fault, not the dogs.

I do not know your dog and I did not see what happened. Therefore, I do not know whether you can save your dog. The woman should not have hit your dog, but you, as a dog owner, did not take the resposibility to keep your dog leashed, or at least under excellent verbal control, in a public place. I hope that if you are allowed to keep Buddyboo alive, you take proper responsibilty. A trained, safe dog is a happy dog.
