Greenday - Wake Me Up When September Ends
Here comes the rain again,
Falling from the stars.
Drenched in my pain again,
Becoming who we are.
Lifehouse - End Has Only Begun
What you do
No one can decide it's up to you
and who you are is what you choose
These times when the world falls apart
Make us who we are

I'm glad some people are taking this seriously and actually reading the song lyrics! To me the similar theme is "pain/hardship making us who we are". I was wondering if you agree with this and why. Thanks for your insight already!!

Well, bad moments makes us strong. And the way we react, i mean how we face those moments defines our personality.
Do u know the egg, coffee and carrot's story? I think these "becoming who we are" and "make us who we are" of the songs mean just that. The experiences that you have in your life (good or bad ones) make you who you are. Or the experiences that a country or even the world experience make them what they are.

I'm assuming the common theme is that going through hard times and experiencing the pain shapes who we are as people. In a way I suppose it's true. It brings to mind the part in V for Vendetta when Evey went through all the torture and lost her fear and became a new person. Personally, I think it's getting through the pain and coming out the other side that can shape us. It's much more the light at the end of the tunnel than dwelling on pain that is the most constructive.

Yes. I actually do. Oasis is great by the way. But do you agree with this song lyric? "Now that the party is jumping With the bass kicked in and the vegas are pumpin' Quick to the point to the point no faking I'm cooking MC's like a pound of bacon" -Vanilla Ice

Ok, I find a common theme, but not really the end of the world, but rather growing up and becoming who you want to be. The end of September is the end of youth. There is a lot of pain in growing up and maturing and becoming who we are. Also in Lifehouse song, the end of youth is the beginning of the end. You have to decide and make your own choices in your life. It takes pain (our world falling apart) to make us who we are. (But that's just me.)

Well, as far as songs go they can mean something different to different people... even the guys who wrote them might disagree with your interpretation, and that's the beauty of music... it can mean something different to everyone. As for the Green Day song, that verse is taken out of context, but the whole song to me is about not letting bad memories overtake you, but not forgetting the events either. We experience pain on so many different levels, and while we shouldn't live in that pain, we shouldn't entirely forget it either and "[become] who we (really) are" beyond that.
As for Lifehouse, God made us all who we are really meant to be, but He also gave us free will and the ability to choose. If we follow Him or not is up to us, but often times when the world comes crashing in because of our own pride we have no one to turn to but Him and ask God to make us less like ourselves at the moment and more like who He wants us to be.

They do seem familiar. The first one is one of my favorites. I think the lyrics mean that we all go through pain now and again. I'm not really sure. I think there's a "hidden" message (only cuz I don't know - so I made that up)

When going through pain and suffering, you find out "The Real You." The person you are on the inside. Yes, I agree.

The Greenday song: I think they are too stoned to realize or even want to realize what month it is.
Not sure about the others, I like em though.

They both talk about that the difficult, painful times in life are the times that mold and shape us.
I think they shape us, but that the good times in our lives can shape us as well.
