Your time - show him you remembered! Go to the pub together or out for a meal. If you want to buy a gift, let it be something that shows you thought about it such as something he would use in a hobby or interest of his. How about a gift subscription to a managazine, or, depending on your budget, you could buy him one of those 'experience' days, Smiths do both of these as gift boxes. My Dad loves motorbikes, years ago he used to have one, so I have bought him a book which is all about Motorcyling from his era and before in his locality. Lots of pictures of his favourite haunts, and probably some of a few folk he knew, too.
Or, why not give him a Family History book to complete? Our parents and grandparents tell us so many stories about their past, and we often don't realise the value of them until they have gone taking their stories with them. Get him to write the stories you have loved hearing, so that your children's children will be able to read them too.
Hope this helps.

I'm a father of 3 grown kids. All most fathers want is for their kids to be happy and successful.
Cool stuff is nice but happy, independant kids is the best present ever.

We have a six month old and a 2 year old and they are giving their dad a picture made with the babies footprints and handprints and the 2 year old made a picture. Home made gifts I think are better if the kids are little. If they are older then I guess you could go with something from the store like tools, or baseball tickets.

I've always tried to 'do' something with my father. My dad enjoys horseshoes, mini-golfing, and fishing among other things. I try to find something we can both do together and just hang out. Fathers just want something meaningful - remember, they can probably buy their own stuff.... but they can't always find the time to do something with you, so make time for him!!!!!
