Arthritis can get worse but there are things you can do to prevent worsening. Eat a diet low in cholesterol and fat. Ask your doctor for anti-inflammatory medications. If he thinks they will help he will prescribe them. Exercise the joint that is afflicted the more you move the less you will hurt. Use ice to reduce swelling or heat to improve movement.
I have had arthritis for over 30 years and a medical assistant for 24 years. This is the advice that I live by.

Yes, the longer you wait to get treatment, the worse it gets. Also, the older you become the more your caralige becomes, and gets worn away the worse it gets.

hi, i am sorry to say i feel it does get worse over time. i think it depends on which one you have. r.a. or o.a. i have o.a. from injuries. in my neck it keeps getting aggrivated so it feels worse. in my knees, not too bad. i have had injections which help. dont want a replacement. in other countries they do cartlidge replacement. our country is way behind dont ya think? debbie

yes, as time goes on arthritis will get worse. There are some medications that help control the pain but nothing that cures it. Welcome to my world.
