Most of the people here are wrong. Texas and Pennsylvania traditionally provide the most persons to serve in the military. As for socio-economic status they are also wrong. Most military members come from lower-middle class to middle class families and for the most part the are conservative in nature. Democrats don't serve too often in the military, there are a few but the are in the minority. Apparently serving your country and sacrificing for others is not the Dem's way.

Of course military personnel come from all over the country (and even other countries), but I see a greater proportion of southerns in the military. I think the other answers that indicate only poor people join the military are ridiculous. Most of my soldiers are from middle class backgrounds. I have a few that are from upper middle class families that chose to enlist for many different reasons. I am certainly not from a poor family and I did not attend West Point.

Why, at the same time as the U. S. by coincidence kills 7 or 8 civilians in a strike antagonistic to the enemy, the international (and US Democrats) unite in protest and holds the incident up as a clarification for the U. S. to get out of Iraq and Afghanistan. even if, at the same time as islamic terrorists blow up 2 hundred civilians in a marketplace position, or kidnap 50 iraqi police recruits and drill holes in thier heads with a plausible drill, you do not listen absolutely everyone whinge? is this one in each of those cases at the same time as that is a historic /cultural element that we shouldn't intervene with or choose?

The poor parts. You don't see any rich kids joining up. (Except for the tiny fraction who come from elite military families and go to West Point. Then they get to be officers and send the poor kids in to die.)
