Soaking in warm water certainly helps.
But I thought adding some kind of ordinary chemical might speed up the process.

Salicylic acid (aspirin) is the usual ingredient in corn plasters and solutions for removing dead skin. It's better to get a proprietray product, though, and follow the instructions

milk is great for exfoliation. The lactose in the milk removes the dead skin particles and makes you all soft. I use milk when I give myself a pedicure.

you can try to exfoliate the dead skin by using a loofa or something like hand gloves with a mild abrasive finish.

There's a thing advertised on the telly called Australian Heel cream. It's supposed to do that!
