When the Europeans came to this continent, there were no laws of men that covered the entire thing. Each small group of local citizens had their own ways of doing things. They probably were not real happy with the invasion.
Now, we have this civilization all over the place, more laws than any of us can count, and this part of the continent is experiencing a sort of invasion again, true. But, think about it, what makes it illegal? Sure, criminals do enter the USA by the southern border daily. But, ordinary working folks do it too. No doubt most of the ordinary working types would be happy to fill in a form, pay their taxes, get driver's licenses, pay SS etc. But, this is not an option our government makes easily available. Clearly the jobs they desire are available to them. Our economy must need these workers. It is a government choice to make them illegal, not necessarily their own.
I am one of the retired ex-pats living in Mexico myself. I have not learned to speak Spanish very well, but I have met lots of Mexicans. For the most part they are not criminals anymore than any other people anywhere. I think if we want to keep the criminal element from Mexico and South America out, we need to have more easily available methods for non-criminals to enter with legal permission to work. This would make it a great deal easier to identify the REAL criminal element if the ordinary workers were legalized.

Sorry to burst your bubble but we did not all come here illegally. The original settlers came to the 'new world' when there were no immigration laws or anything like that. So technically, they were not ILLEGAL because there was no law to break! When laws are put into place, you are required to follow them when you enter any country. People who came over from Italy, Ireland and Poland back in the early 1920's & 30's had to go through Ellis Island (Immigration) and get approved to come into the country, makeing them LEGAL!! And some of us were born here.

My ancestors were french and cherokee indian. I have a right to be here. The reason there are such laws as immigration is so that everyone can get a fair shot to be an American. It's not fair to the immigrants that do it the legal way when many of their people come over here illegally. Maybe if so many illegals weren't over here, there would be more people able to come over here legally. What I feel is that if someone were to rob a bank, they'd pay for the crime. Every law is a law for a reason and if you choose to break that law, you should be punished. If someone wants to be here, they need to abide by the laws like we do.

Technically, even the Native Americans are immigrants. They originally came to the Americas about 14,000 years ago from Asia. I think that the major issue is that these illegal immigrants do not pay taxes, they do not contribute in a positive way to society and they do not want to adapt to our culture. Legal immigrants, on the other hand do. As to what happened to the Native Americans, it is in the past and too late to change it now. That mistake cannot be used as a standard for today's issues. It is something to be learned from. We don't want the Mexicans doing to us what we (and they) did to the Indians.

The Indians do, and that is why over time they have worked with the government to stop illegal immigration.
I am a tenth generation American who has lost enough to illegal immigration, and it is time to get it under control.
It is not about race, or residing nation. It is about America, and protecting all that my ancestors fought and died for. I have an extensive immigrant heritage, on the sides of my grandfathers.
I am proud of each and every heritage I do carry, especially my idian heritage. Even with that heritage, I do not claim to the rights of the indian nations because my people have already given up enough.
In truth it is only a small portion of illegals that come here illegally that are good people and most of them are not from Mexico.
The rest are fleeing crimes they have committed in their native home land. That is why it is so easy for them to endanger America and her people without a second thought.
I have seen the greed that many illegal Mexican Immigrants exhibit, for those of you that don't speak English well, exhibit means ''to show."
My compassion for Illegal Mexicans has been drained out by the last two previous Amnesty Bills, that only made the problem worse. They have stolen from me in the past, and three times this year, as well as once last year.
What they stole we can not get back, and now my husband and I have to pay to have his ssi number changed, and his driver's license changed, for the second time.
Voting does not work, because there are too many illegal immigrants using stolen identification to get voter registration cards, and they are out voting you.
The American people are accustomed to doing things for themselves, and we will handle this ourselves, at least until the government begins to listen to the American Citizens again.
There are thousands of legal immigrants in this country afraid to speak up against their home nations, or to speak for their new home nation, but that must change.
These immigrants have earned the right to be an American, I respect and honor them in my country.
But, there are casualties in every battle, even peacefull ones.
The casualties in this war will be millions of illegal immigrants returning to their home nations.
America is broke, we have an enormous defeciet that has yet to be dealth with, and the poor American population is growing by leaps and bounds.
We can not help anyone else, until we heal ourselves.
Illegal immigrants need to take what they have learned about America go home, apply it there, and better their own nations so that maybe someday there will be no need for borders, because all nations will be entolerant of criminal governments.

Close your wallets to Illegal Mexicans, and Legal Mexican immigrants that support human smuggling, and illegal immigration.
Be an American, Make a STAND!
Close your wallets, until America and her people are once again safe.

My great grandparents did not come here illegally. They went through the process all alliens did. Stop using this argument. It doesn't work. Most native Americans came from Asia. No matter what happened over a hundred years ago or more, the law says you cannot enter this country without due process.

I was born in Texas and my relatives entered this country through Ellis Island in the 1800's. They were processed through the system and became legal in this country. If you enter this country intending to stay and fail to apply for citizenship, you should be deported as soon as your'e caught. I too feel for those people who want to stay, but have a problem when they won't apply for citizenship. A bunch of illiegals here in Texas work to send the money back to Mexico. There was an article in the Star-Telegram the other day about one women who sent all her money back to Mexico and now lives in a mansion down there. And back to your question, check how your relatives came into this country, you may find they became legal and went on from there.

The United States is a sovereign country and has the right to determine who is allowed to enter. What about countries like Mexico who have a truly militarized border and too frequently rob, rape, and sometimes worse to the poor people from other South American countries who just want travel through Mexico? So it take it you are for hoards of poor persons over-running Mexico in search of a better life even if it causes tremendous problems for the Mexican economy?

That argument MIGHT have had some merit about 200 years ago.
Since that time, governments have been formed, constitutions written and amended, laws created, and a country with a culture of it's own has been born and spawned quite a few generations of "Americans".
At this point, that "we're all illegal" argument is wholly irrelevant.

Ok, as a US citizen, I agree with the couple answers already given....our governemnt who we elected does have the right to say what is a legal way of entering our counrty. And to be honest, I find it stupid for anyone to think they have a right to enter this counrty, take a job from a citizen and then expect me to honer their version of our national anthem and also expect me to welcome them with open arms while my taxes go higher to pay for their health care and housing....and at the same time, the illegal alien doesn't even have to pay taxes or even speak the english language. Not trying to be rude but if you want to be treated like a citizen, talk whatever language you speak, want health care and public housing and want all of the other benifits of being a citizen then go back to where you came from....or become a citizen the right way and pay for the right to be in the US like the rest of us do.
