I also have psoriasis. Depending on how flared-up you are, the things that may provide relief can be different. The biggest thing to keep in mind is that psoriasis is not a skin condition, it's an immune system condition. Creams and lotions will ease the outward symptoms of itching, burning and redness but I have yet to see anything that cures psoriasis and several of the medications they have out now possess rather frightening side-effects.

Here's some herbal/holistic recommendations. Flax seed oil taken internally can help increase the amount of moisture your skin can maintain. Psoriatic skin is immature and shouldn't be at the surface at all. Think of it as a healing burn. It can't retain moisture nor does it provide the barrier that healthy skin does against infection. My daughter takes fresh dandelions fro the yard and rubs the yellow part of the flower on her patches until they are stained with the oils from the flower. For her, this calms the patch for several weeks. It doesn't last as long for me, but it does calm down the most obnoxious of my patches.

Showering is very important. Do not use blazing hot water and don't scrub too hard. Use a glycerine soap, or even an oatmeal soap which will get you clean without stripping the little good oils your skin is producing. Wear loose clothing made of natural fibers if you can. I carry a doctor's note any time I get a new job because usually any assigned uniform sends me into a flare-up.

If your lesions get cracked and infected, use tea tree oil to clean the area (don't use around eyes or in the genito-anal area). Tea tree is antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral. Then apply a salve that contains calendula. Calendula will soothe the cracks and the salve base will act as a temporary barrier to keep out further infectious elements.

Hope you feel better soon!

I had a 13 year history of psoriasis, though I was in good health otherwise. But these severe large, thick and scaly excoriated plaques on my neck, ears, trunk and limbs ruined the way I was leading my life. I would be with red, inflamed itchy skin for most part of the year and these silvery scales would seem to be erupting without any reason. To make matters worse, blisters would appear over already red and itching skin. It was living hell.

I was treated with various options but nothing seemed to be working. Some of the treatments that I underwent in this depressing period of 13 years included tar preparation, tropical steroids and anthralin. I was also given light therapy many times but everything I tried would give me temporary relief.

And soon, after a few days I would be plagued with the situation again. In one of those moments when I was completely lost I stumbled upon this website just by chance. I read it and felt that as if someone had put the story my life on this web page. I was thoroughly convinced that if ANYONE can cure me of condition, it would be you.

And was I right, or what. I started recovering within 3 days of starting this treatment. Something that had become a painful part of me for 13 years was actually getting healed! My ears are healed and my neck is smooth again!. I am a month into the treatment and I have never felt better in my life!

Psoriasis can be treated but you have to go to a doctor. There are soaps, lotions, medication and many other things. The doctor will tell you what is best for you.

I also have this bad, and you have to avoid any hard kinds of soap, or deodorant soaps. keep the areas moisterized, and dont scratch it at all.
