On Tuesday (6/20) I have a science final coming up. I have been studying a little for it so far, but I have been waiting for this weekend to really start because I have nothing else to study for. Does anyone have any studying tips? The test is on biology. Thanks!

By the way, I have been studying all along, but not as much as other subjects because they have all been this past week.

Studying for biology can seem overwhelming, but it doesn't have to be. If you follow a few simple steps, studying for biology will be less stressful and more enjoyable. I've compiled a list of several helpful biology study tips for biology students. Whether you're in middle school, high school, or college, these tips are bound to produce results!

Biology Study Tips

Bio-Study Tip 1

Always read the lecture material before the classroom lecture. I know, I know--you don't have time, but believe me, it makes an immense difference.

Bio-Study Tip 2

Biology, like most sciences, is hands-on. Most of us learn best when we are actively participating in a "topic." So make sure to pay attention in lab sessions and actually perform the experiments. Remember, you won't be graded on your lab partner's ability to perform an experiment, but your own.

Bio-Study Tip 3

Sit in the front of the class. Simple, yet effective. College students, pay close attention. You'll need recommendations one day, so make sure your professor knows you by name and you aren't 1 face in 400.

Bio-Study Tip 4

Compare notes with a friend. Since much of biology tends to be abstract, have a "note buddy." Each day after class compare notes with your buddy and fill in any gaps. Two heads are better than one!

Bio-Study Tip 5

Use the "lull" period between classes to immediately review the biology notes you have just taken.

Bio-Study Tip 6

Don't cram! As a rule, you should start studying for biology exams a minimum of two weeks prior to the exam.

Bio-Study Tip 7

This tip is very important -- stay awake in class. I've observed too many people snoozing (even snoring!) in the middle of class. Osmosis may work for water absorption, but it won't work when it comes time for biology exams.

Bio-Study Tip 8

Find some useful resources to help you when you study after class. Here are a few resources that I would suggest to help make learning biology interesting and fun:

Don't wait till the last minute...start now. If there are things like definitions use flash cards to help with those. Make sure you study in an environment that is best for you (i.e. no noise or anything to distract you). Hope that helps.

Now this may seem a little odd to you, however it worked wonders for me and for everyone I have told it to. Eat tootsie rolls before your test and if possible during your test. I know it is strange but it does work. My Trig teacher told me this when I was a senior in high school. It has yet to fail me. For some odd reason one of the ingredients helps you to stay calm and focused.

If you cram and get at least 8 hours of sleep your brain will remember all of it. If you cram and get less than 8 hours of sleep your brain will retain some.. not very much tho.
I suggest cramming during the day... and go to sleep at 8 or 9.
Eat a good breakfast. And be hydrated
GOOD LUCK!

Im taking it tomorrow also DO NOT DO TOO MUCH LAST MINUTE CRAMMING look over errors that you have done from other tests because you do not want to make the same mistakes twice!!! Do not change your habits too much like sleep time, amount of breakfast eaten otherwise it might make you not feel well GOOD LUCKK!

Number one, I would get to studying. Number two, make sure you get plenty of sleep. This way your mind will be sharper on the day of the test. Don't forget to eat and drink. Poor nutrition and dehydration will slow your mind. Look at all of your past tests. Refresh yourself on the ones you got right, and focus on the ones you had trouble with or got wrong. Look at anything you had to do a project on and any disections and in-class projects you had to do. Best of luck to you!

do not stay up all night the night before to cram - sleep deprivation is negatively correlated with retention of information for most people. when taking the final, if possible, answer all easy questions first (all the ones you know right off the bat) and make sure you don't brood over one hard question for ages - give all the 'non-easy' ones equal time. if you don't know, guess. who knows, you just might be right. :-) good luck!

Go get some 3X5 cards and make flashcards with questions on one side and answers on the other. The act of writing it down will help you absorb the information and then you'll have an easy way to quiz yourself over and over until you've got it. :) Happy procrastinating to you. ;)
