I am a Christian and I see a lot of religious answers that bind people that God didnt not say in His word. For example did God frown upon the kings in the OT that had multiple wives and mistresses? No his focus was on David and the fact that he had Bathsheba's husband killed and God punished him because he manipulated the situation. Did God punish him for lusting after bathsheba? Did he punish him for having sex with her? No God didn't so therefore those acts were overlooked by God because it isn't sin. Jesus made the water into wine after they had drank it all up! Im sure they got drunk! The "religious leaders" will tell you that getting drinking is a sin right? Well it isn't because Jesus did it! Its a sin if you take it to the extreme of not supporting your family, not feeding them, not paying the rent then you are not doing what God ultimately commands and that is to love God, love others, as you would yourself. God isn't about religion in which was created by man. Think about it..

This is not meant to criticize or anything but to maybe get yal to think about the freedom that we do have because we are saved by grace. Well what does that mean? I know many of you are not going to believe but we really do have the spiritual freedom but some do like to do what they are told.

Oops forgot my ? and basically my question is that could you really have freedom in Christ if you knew what free from the law meant? No boundaries but the boundaries of love, what does that mean to you?

You have an interesting view. I think I would agree with a lot of it. Ultimately anything about God comes down to relationships. Our relationship with God and how we treat those around us.

You can look at this in alot of differnt ways. Religion was created by man and the bible was written by man...The biggest problem that Religious people have is that they cannot accept any other answers. For instance....In Exodus it tells us of Moses freeing the slaves from Egypt and then it tells about the plauges but No where in the entire Egyptian history is there any record of this at all! And anyone who has common sence or an Archeologicial Degree will tell you that the Egyptians were Excellent record takers. They hardly had slaves...if you know anything about history the Pyramids were built by Egyptians not slaves. the only slaves they had were the slaves of thier enemies. And when moses parted the Red sea and wiped out the entire Egyptian Army..don't you think that someone somewhere would have documented that??? Don't you think the egyptians woulda mentioned that a little...because like I said thier history is very well documented.

well there are also a lot of verses that address that very issue...about freedom, so to speak, as a believer. Paul asks...since we are saved by grace, does this mean we should continue in sin, that grace may abound? And then he replies, heaven forbid! God's grace is not a license to sin.
Paul also wrote that although all things may be allowed us, that doesn't mean that all things are expedient.
We need to not confuse salvation and grace with the freedom to live as we please. In reading the new testament, we see boundaries. Love one another, love God. Do not be drunk, says the scripture. Look at what Corinthians tells us. Neither liars nor adulterors nor fornicators nor the sexually immoral will enter the kingdom of heaven.
I am free to live a life that is dedicated to righteous living. I have no desire to wallow in the mud like I once did. His blood has made me clean, and I wish to stay that way. Somone who is looking to "get away with" whatever.....is a person who needs to know Jesus Christ more.

This is a portion of an answer I gave someone else -- we have a skewed sense of what sin means.
Sin means "miss" aramaic archery term (according to sylvia browne.)
to be classified A sin in terms of theology requires that it is:
1. INTENTIONAL
2. done with FULL knowledge of implications and impacts
3. Malicious
Getting drunk is not a sin unless their is excess, which we all know to be wrong. Sex - is the same thing, it's only a sin when you KNOW you are not supposed to be doing it with a particualr peron or at a particular taim in your life -- so what happens -- it becomes a "sin" and you "miss the mark or the goal" that your particular life is supposed to veer toward.
That is why we have a conscience, we are steered morally in directions that if we do not pay attention to, will run into trouble.
Religion is a guide, a way to LIVE in this existence fruitfully. That is the purpose of religion and spirituality in order to offer a better understanding of the things in life that affect our physical finite lives.
It is important that we fulfill what we believe to be our mission in life, no matter what it may be -- that is our goal, and if we do anythihng to undermine it, we are missing the goal -- sinning takes us away from our path toward the good we ae to accomplish in our personal life that will bring us and those around and affected by us spiritual, fulfillment.

You are absolutely right. The Bible is the first and last word as far as God goes. And a lot of the shameful, sinful things that the church comes up with to call sin are totally okay to do just so long as we don't go to extremes. There is some faulty logic here, but you are right in saying religion is man made and our absolute commandment is to love God and love others.

>>>Did God punish him for lusting after bathsheba? Did he punish him for having sex with her? No God didn't so therefore those acts were overlooked by God because it isn't sin.<<<
What makes you think that David was not punished for any of this?
The Bible is very, very clear that David was punished. Specifically, his newborn son (through death) was taken from him and just the thought of this caused David a great deal of grief.
God did NOT overlook these sins, as you assert. He sent Nathan to read David the riot act over them -- and He sent Nathan to tell David that his newborn son would die as a result of David's sin.
So, no offense, but you are very much in error in asserting that David was not punished for these sins, or that God "overlooked" them.

You definately need to re-read your Bible.
...Did God frown upon multiple wives/mistresses?
YES.
Have you ever read the words "adultery" and "fornication" in your Bible? And also, where in the world did you get the idea that "Lusting" wasn't a sin?
I'm at loss to say this in a nice way, but "you really need to get your facts straight!"
Good luck with that.
Also, No where in the Bible does it say Jesus got drunk.
The other thing you need to realize: "it isn't about what the religious leaders tell you; It's about what God tells you. Read the Bible for yourself. It's available in plain english."

Drinking is okay, but the Bible says not to excess.
And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess" (Eph. 5:18). Drink, but dont get smashed.
David wasnt punished for what he did with Bathsheba because he repented of his sin. BUT, as a consequence, the baby they had concieved was still-born.
And it is not to love one another as we love ourself, but to love one another as Christ loved the church, so much so he we would die for oneanother.
I get your point. And I am a Christian also, I do not subscribe to a single religion. God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, is where my heart is, and the Bible is the teaching I follow, no cut and dried man made religion. I know where you were going with it, I just wanted to clear up somethings I noticed.

Very good points! If Jesus is supposed to be perfect then we must assume that his actions, ideas, culture, clothing (gotta love the shoes!) and even his religion are perfect...right? So drinking can't be a sin. (It may be really bad for brain cells, but so is spinning really fast in a circle and that's definitely not a sin).

Hahaha... they r same... either christian or non. Most of people like to take some of His word in Bible or Koran and try to againt others ( i'm so sorry... most of them Christian ). they will againts Islam & Muslimbased on something -ve but they never look at +ve thing. When you should kill ppl and when not? They never read surah al-Mumthanah : 60 : 8 & 9. Allah tell what type of non-Muslim that can be ur friends and who is not. Most of Allah word about kill the ppl ( non-Muslim ) is refer to Musyrikin ( they didnot followed the contract btwn Muslim and them ( Muhammad time ). And not all non-Muslim is Musyrikin. Today, we can said Musyrikin is Bush and friends. But ppl like Pope, Dalai Lama is not!
But for the Muslim, they always think that they got power to forcing non-Muslim to convert to Islam. But in Koran said :
Baqarah : 2 : 256
2:256 Let there be no compulsion in religion:
Surah khafi : 18 : 29
18:29 Say, "The truth is from your Lord": Let him who will believe, and let him who will, reject (it): for the wrong-doers We have prepared a Fire whose (smoke and flames), like the walls and roof of a tent, will hem them in: if they implore relief they will be granted water like melted brass, that will scald their faces, how dreadful the drink! How uncomfortable a couch to recline on!
surah Yunus : 10 : 99
10:99 If it had been thy Lord's will, they would all have believed,- all who are on earth! wilt thou then compel mankind, against their will, to believe!
