How affordable are braces? What if you haveno insurance, or if you do? I am a little bit older, so has anyone used the invisible ones? Are they really invisible. I am interested in getting braces, but worried about price, and would like to know how much some paid. Montly prices? And, about the invisible ones. My teeth arent too bad, a small gap in the top row, and a bit of crowding in lower, other than that pretty good shape. Just had parents who didnt want to splurge on braces I guess!

Invisalign I think is the brand of the invisible ones you're talking about. I had the regular ones years ago when they were still experimenting with the clear ones. The invisible ones are installed on the backside (tongueside) of your teeth. That's why they're "invisible". The clear ones are okay but they still look funky (my own opinion) and are less sturdy than the metal ones.

As far as affordability, it may be worthwhile to get dental insurance that covers braces because they are not cheap. Some orthodontists offer payment plans as well. Definitely do your research though because the actual total cost is going to depend on the Orthodontist you go to. Good luck. :)

I think it would very expensive if you do not have insurance to help with the costs. My out-of-pocket with insurance was about $1200 (total cost about $3000) for my son's braces, and this included the dentist. If you have a regular dentist, discuss your options thoroughly with that doctor. Ask if they accept payment plans, what the total cost should be, and get a written, detailed list with prices before you embark on this. Is it really worth it to you to straighten your teeth?

I have a very small mouth, and very crowded teeth. It doesn't bother me, but each person has a different view of themselves. People get braces while they are younger because the jaw is still forming. For us older folks, changing something that should be a permanent item is not so easy. The braces will also cut up the inside of your mouth, and a retainer or other appliance after the braces come off are usually required.

So, check out every option thoroughly before you commit financially.

Good luck!

Invisaligns are very expensive. I believe around $6000-7000. They are invisible, but you can see the clear plastic on your teeth and you have to learn not to "slur" a bit when you first wear them.

Braces these days without insurance are running $3500-4000. Most dentists let you pay $100-150 a month with the braces.

You may also need to have teeth extracted before they put on the braces, which of course will cost more.

It really depends on the severity of your malocclusion. This means if there is a lot of tooth movement required, chances are you braces will be on longer, your case will be more complicated, and it will cost more. If only minor tooth movement is necessary, then the braces will not be on very long, and it wont cost as much. Typically braces can cost from 2000- 5000$ for total treatment. You can work it out with your dentist, or orthodontist in terms of how to pay for it. Usually there is an up front cost, and then afterwards monthly payments. It ususally depends on who you go to... The invisible braces, I think your referring to INVISALIGN, are great in that they are close to transparent. They are made of a clear plastic (much like bleaching trays), you do have to wear them all the time, except to eat, and brush your teeth. You have to have a keen eye to notice them. They are best only for minor tooth movement (in my experience anyway)

well i do know that u can get medicaid and if u go to certain doctors then they will cover the price of those braces. if u dont have insurance at all its goig to be pretty expensive. mine cost 4,000 but we only had to pay 500 out of pocket. the invisible ones are called invisalign i think. those are a lot more inexpensive.but u have to go to the doctor like every two weeks to get a new set.i think u have to wear them for a shorter time too.
good luck in ur braces search
