I have heard "I ain't joining the white man's army!" "I'm going to college" when these people don't even have their GED. "I'll only join if I'm an officier" when they don't have any plans of going to college. "I ain't fighting for Bush." I have heard many other things as well, all said in a very condisending tone. Why do people feel this way?

There's no logical answer to that. The world is full of nut's.The only thing wrong with that is they are all born with the power of speech, and they abuse the power.

I think you mean 'Serve this country'.
My husband is a Senior Officer. It is his choice. He qualified as a Lawyer and then decided that he wanted to be involved in EOD. He loves it but it doesn't make him any better than Doctors or Nurses, teachers or Carers. It's a job, a job he loves, has done for 28 years and a job at which he excels but he has no truck with jingoism. He loves our beautiful country (we are English) but so do I, and I work in an entirely different field. He is an idealist (still, bless him!), he believes and upholds the fact that the Army is there to defend and not to take part in illegal conflicts, involving pointless civilian loss. If we had a Son I am sure that we would prefer him to enter another field. Our Girls are aiming at Business & Law. Choosing NOT to go into The services for reasons of pacifism, wanting a more stable life, or simply making an alternative career choice is up to the individual, and not for anyone else to comment upon.

people who think that are ignorant. especially the ones who say that they are going to college, not joining the military. why add up all that college debt when you can serve in the military for a few years and make the government pay for your school. i think serving in the military is a very honorable thing and it helps you to see the world and travel.

Probably because that generation has not had to live in a state of global fear and they've always had everything handed to them. Those of us who can remember duck-n-cover drills in school in case the Russians dropped a bomb on our building have a more realistic idea of how fragile our life and freedom is.

Those people who procrastinate are completely unaware of how hon arable it is to where ones nation's military uniform and to serve it.
Sure their other ways of serving ones nation, but being in the military is one of the best.
They are simply ignorant of the sacrifices that the military does, they complain because they really don't care.
If a person is focused on being a servant of his nation by standing guard with a gun in his/her hand in a foreign nation then he/she shall do it,without complain.

They are cowards, they are to good to join the military but not too good to enjoy the rewards that our military brings us. Honestly I hate them all. My husband sacrifices himself for them and it makes me so angry. He's in the Marines.
