"Idle" words, not "ideal" words. I think it refers to careless things we say that hurt people far more than we expect or intend to.

I am sure God will take into account our intentions, since He knows our hearts, but we are certainly responsible for some of the results, since it is like firing a gun when we cannot see what we are aiming at. I seem to recall there is a Proverb (26:18) where it says that a man who says hurtful lies and then tries to weasel out of it by saying he was only joking is like someone who goes around shooting flaming arrows at random-- in other words, a danger to the entire community.

Both... Read what Jesus had to say about adultery in Matthew 5. We are accountable for everything...

The beautiful thing is that as a Christian... I am forgiven for everything and have been declared as righteous before God. Does this give me a license to sin? Of course not for every true Christian desires to follow Christ and please HIm... so we do not desire to sin but to become like Jesus! ;)
