The dinner table is the best time to talk with the family as a whole. Spending time, Well.....We go camping on the river, weekends. On work nights after dinner we play board or TV games. Monopoly, Scene it, Pictionary, etc.. We have allot of fun. There are so many things to do. As long as you are doing it as a whole, it is valuable time.

Movie night. Go rent a really funny movie the entire family would love, I suggest "Elf". Have everyone in the family room on a Friday night, get some popcorn, soda, and candy. Have the family chill and laugh together at the movie.
I would also suggest game night, "Trouble" is really a fun family game. Pick a couple fun family games to do after dinner and play all sorts of games all night!

Once a year, my family gets together at Disney World in FL. We spend time seeing the sights, going on rides, eating great food, and just hanging out. (We're all adults.)

Going out to the park - walking, playing games/sports, or just sitting in the shade with a picnic hamper and a deck of cards
For miserable weather, you can't beat board games

my favorite way is for me and my family to just go out for lunch or dinner, playing family games or football and/or any other sport. Sometimes just talking, or cooking dinner together or doing a fun trip like fishing....camping....amusement parks, etc.

I love to spend time with my kids by just going for a walk. When you are alone with them they seem to open up and talk to you.

My biggest enjoyment comes from just talking about life. Espcially with children, hearing what they think, concerns, etc... I learned more from them I think then they learned from them. Most important of all it's okay to be a kid, even though you maybe Mom or Dad.

Playing with them out in the back yard, playing video games or just walking to store. It's a matter of just having them smile.
