I never had a very straight hairline but in about a year I've developed a widows peak. I'm only 21. My brother whos a few years older has the same hairline as me now. My mother's father had a full head of hair into his 60s when he died and my father's father thinned a lot of top. Is what I have just normal maturation? What should I do about it?

My dad had a widow's peak at 19, and it slowly progressed over time. He's now just generally thin on top, but no combovers or anything ridiculous like that. Don't fret, it's just how God made you. He must think it looks pretty good on you.

The trait for male pattern baldness is carried by the mother, not the father and if you have it, there's really nothing you can do about it. My father was bald by the time he was 22 and I am female so I carry the trait that my son will probably have, (and possibly my daughter because male pattern baldness affects 20% of women). As for topical treatments, they don't really work. Rogain started out as medicine used for hypertension and the SIDE EFFECT is hair growth, and that side affect only works in 20% of the people who use it.
