The literal translation fo the Greek word "sin" is to miss as in missing a target. In it's current connotation it means to go against the will of a divine providence or deity. I doubt you are misleading your 2 year old when you deny him some time with a favored toy or video - in fact I feel you may be doing him a service. I'm teacher and have worked with pre-school kids and find that they are flexible as long as you are reasonable with your reasons for denying them some luxury (which they may see as a necessity) and make it known that this is not a permanent and/or uncompromisable conditon. "Hey, kiddo, I know you like Barney but I need a break from him now and then. After a couple hours (what ever time limit seems reasonable) you can play the Barney video, go on a walk or play a game with me. The choice is yours." Yes, two year olds can make choices, maybe not YOURs but it is the time to start teaching them how. If he chooses Barney over you get some ear plugs or play your MP3 /portable CD player (being sure to keep an eye on him/her) till Barney is through and then impose another time limit/choice opportunity. Wireless headphones for your 2yr old might also be an option.

Given: BARNEY IS A CUTE PURPLE DINOSAUR
Prove: BARNEY IS SATAN

1) The Romans had no letter "U" in their alphabet.

2) The Romans used the letter "V" for "U."

3) Using the Roman alphabet: CUTE PURPLE DINOSAUR becomes CVTE PVRPLE DINOSAVR.

4) Extracting the Roman numerals from CVTE PVRPLE DINOSAVR, we get C, V, V, L, D, I, V.

5) Substitute the decimal equivalents for the Roman numerals: C=100, V=5, L=50, D=500, I=1.

6) Add all decimal equivalents: C=100, V=5, V=5, L=50, D=500, I=1, V=5

7) The total of the above numbers is 666.

8) In the Bible, 666 is the mark of the Beast.

9) The Beast is Satan.

10) Therefore . . .

No, it is not a sin. You are the parent who controls what your child watches and what activities they do.

I have two grandchildren, and when they come over, there are cartoons on that I don't like. I like Spongebob Squarepants and Jimmy Neutron, but most of the other things I don't care for, but they are only 5 and 6 years old, so I put up with them. They also like to watch Kidsongs videos, and I let them. They are not hurting anything.

I think you should put in earplugs and let your child watch Barney, Teletubbies and the things that 2 year olds like and just wear earplugs or learn to live with it. Someday, your child will be a grown up. Enjoy their childhood and the things they do. With my own two, who are grown ups now, I watched Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood, and cartoons, and I imitated The Count and Cookie Monster for them. They are grown up now, and I miss it and wish I could do it all again.

Enjoy the time of Barney while you can.

It really funny that you mention this, because at this very moment, I'm going through the same thing. My daugher watches Barney up the wazzoo, and it drives me crazy. I guess it's my payback for putting my mom through the same thing. Now I know what she was feeling when she use to beg me to go outside or watch watch something different.

Anyways, a little heads up. You don't have to hide the movies. What I did was compromise with my daughter. i let her keep her movies and I even let her have the big screen t.v.. I went a bought a little 13", complete with a built-in dvd player, and put it in the dining room, next to the living room where she watches her beloved show, day in and day out. I then bought a pair of headphones to plug into the t.v.. I made sure to put the t.v. in a spot where I could keep a good eye on her. It works out for everybody. She gets to watch her show, and I get to not watch her show, we're all happy.

If kids didn't love Barney then Barney would be out of business. Teach your children day and night the ways of the Lord. Teach them his commandments. So when the child is older he will return to God's way. God Bless

No it is not a sin. It is actually a very humane thing to do.
People have been know to go into a violent rage after hearing that just 20 times in a few hours.
Save a child. Destroy that video.

It would be much worse if you were watching talking vegitables... That is what some Christians concider acceptable for kids to watch. But no... i would even say get rid of them permanently. Read to your children from real books instead. And get off the internet. the kids are more important

No way! I had that problem too. I was so close to throwing them away completely but i couldn't. hide them and introduce them to something else new and without the words "i love you" in a song :)

Yes, it's a sin, but you won't got to regular hell for it, you'll go to Barney hell where you'll hear that song 1,500,000 times a day. Just let him watch it.
