I always end up going back to the same breed. I've had others, but love the Danes.

I have had a Cockapoo, Black Lab and 2 Golden Retrievers and while they were all great dogs, my Golden Retrievers are the best. One is almost 14 and one is 7. Neither have had health problems or obedience problems. They are great with children and new people, yet very protective of the entire family. They stay close to home and can be trusted. The only problem is that they go through a terrible chewing period when about a year old. I would highly recommend Golden Retrievers.

okay. I help at vetrinary offices and have helped with many animals and has had many breeds. The smartest dog that loves kids and is always friendly is a labrador. Golden retrievers are hairy and beagles are all hunting and tend to snap. Labradors love attention and let kids climb all over them all day without a temper. Not only are they adorable but they always listen and will do anything for a treat until they learn by themselves. They seem big but are most friendly dog anyone could get that is big enough for a little kid to give him/her a big bear hug. Now out of male or female I would probably pick female because they are more laid back and less jumpy. But in general labradors are hilarious dogs that love to be cared for and even help with special needs kids. Please pick a labrador for the welfare of your children. There is silver, black, brown, and yellow. All are unique and pretty. they are great family pets.

Husky, definately a husky. And i would definately go thru an animal rescue or humane society, there are too many animals out there with no homes. We got a female husky mix pup about a year ago and she was the best thing that happened to this family. We got all the books on Siberian Huskies and found they are a very gentle breed. she tries so hard to "howl" like a coyote, but she can't quiete get it nailed down, it's pretty funny. But seriously, they are very loyal and loving. whenever one of the kids come home she will stop whatever she is doing and run to the person and welcome them into the house. they get along with other breeds, we had rescued a small mixed breed the year before her and it's pretty funny to see them play together. You will need obediance classes, as they try to "rule" you, but you just need to show them who's the boss. They learn fast and love long. Since you have large yard that's perfect for them to run. Good luck! hope i helped, any questions email me!

It depends on your lifestyle and what you enjoy. Dalmations for example are extremely hyper and active, therefore you should only own one if you live an active lifestyle. Siberian Huskies are great, but they shed tons of hair, especially during summer..therefore you might not want to deal with that. Therefore, my best advice to you is to do a lot of research, because too many times people buy pets that don't suit their lifestyle and this is bad for the family and the dog.
However, on a different note of personal opinion I think golden retrievers, labradors or australian shepherds make great family/watch/intelligent dogs & therefore if a bigger dog is what you are looking for and you want one that is fairly easy to train you should go this route. Also in my experience male dogs are much easier to own than female dogs...but regardless of sex make sure to have your dog spayed or neutered!

I grew up with a German shepherd. He and I were inseparable as long as I was outside... and this was from the time I was 2 or 3 years old. My father used to tell people that if they could take me without hurting the dog, they could have me. (Nobody ever took the chance.) He was an excellent watchdog and a faithful friend. He would go with me to visit the neighbor and eat his candy, but he wouldn't let the neighbor step across the line onto our property if no one was home. And no matter how wildly he was barking when someone came up to the house or walked by on the road, it only took one word from me to make him stop.
If you can find one like ol' Bullitt, you'll have it made.
p.s. My condolences on the loss of your dog. I know how it feels.

It is all based on what you like. My suggestion is always to adopt. There are sooo many animals that need good homes. Go to petfinder.com and you can find and browse all kinds of dogs in your area. Find one you think is cute. Go meet him and see if it feels right. The people at the shelter will be able to answer any questions you may have. I got my dog this way and he is wonderful! Because of him I am very partial to beagle mixes. They are so cute and loving!
