A Bloodsucker. They live in fresh water. They get on the bodies of waders more than swimmers because swimmers are moving around too fast but it's possible to go for a swim in fresh water and come out with 1 or 2 under the bathingsuit, full of blood and getting bigger by the second. These things are not just pests. They used to be used by doctors who rid patients of some of their blood, for constructive purposes.
