Lining the border with landmines would be extremely expensive and ineffective. First, the sheer cost involved. To cover all of the border, we would have to place mines about every 3 to 5 ft--for over 1500 miles. The cost of manufacturing or recovering these mines and getting personnel to carefully place them would be way too much. Second, illegal immigrants might just use tunnels or boats instead. Third, the land area couldn't be used for anything for a long time because of the danger until all of the mines were swept. Fourth, a lot of the mines might go off or become ineffective due to animals, weather, erosion, and other non-human factors. Illegal immigration is a long-term issue, and if you want to approach it in hopes of actually resolving it, please do so intelligently.

This is one of the most stupid ideas I've heard. Those land mines will be there for ever. There are countries all over the world littered with mines that are killing people (lots of them children) every day. Every year thousands of innocent people ged maimed and killed by mines that were put in place decades ago. I also don't want to live in a fearful country with corpses lining the boarder. These people are sneaking across the boarder for an attempt at a better life. These people are desperate, they will still come.
America was founded on immigration by people wanting to start a new life. Why is that so hard for people to understand. I do think that people should enter our country legally. If you want to place land minds on the boarder have fun farming your own food, that is, unless you want to pay 4 bucks a pound for oranges.

Land mines are a terrible idea. I see what you're suggesting, but land mines are not the way to do it.
Unlike other kinds of weaponry, land mines stay where they are until they go off, often many years after whatever conflict that caused their placement is over. These weapons do not discriminate between innocent or guilty, male or female, old or young, combatant or civilian.
If you want to risk the lives and limbs of American citizens who live in the border region over the next 10-30 years, then by all means use land mines. But if you would like to find a serious solution to illegal immigration, I'd suggest blowing up any land mine ideas before they get planted.

I'm a bad old Conservative, so this may shock you liberals out there. You see, the illegals are not bad people for the most part. They only want to come here to make money to feed their families. We need to set up a 'guest worker' program so that they can come here to work legally. However, our first priority is to seal off the border. This would allow decent people in to work and keep the criminals and those who wish us harm out.

The reason is that if we did do that President Bush and President Fox would have to find another way to get the drug dealers, gun smugglers, and human smugglers across the border.
Then President Bush would have to withdrawl the Patriot Act, and give American Citizens back their rights to not have their homes violated in front of the thier children and family because they are too poor to pay fines.

Why do you want to put up english signs only? than how the heck are the mexicans (who cross the border so they can have a better future and feed their family) supposed to know what the sign says if they don't know english. and not all illegals are criminals.

For the person above me. We could tell the ones crossing legally where the mines are located. The illegal ones? Well, oh never mind, I don't really give a sh*t.

That would be a good idea and might work IF innocent children were not caught in our violence. But sure as heck they will be, and that is not acceptable. Further, we OUGHT to be able to solve the problem without such violent means.
I hope you agree.

Sure, why not? Then our teenagers, who are bored to tears, will go out and create a new challenge...who can run across and back without stepping on one. Or will it be the red-necks whose last words are, "Hey, y'all, watch this!"
