I know that they have added winglets to some private aircraft, Airbus airplanes, and some newer 737s to increase a plane's range capabilities but why don't they add winglets to every plane so every plane can fly further?

The reason not all planes have them is that the effect is typically less than 10%. And that value only applies to the effect of wing span and not total performance of the aircraft. Not worth it for a Cessna 172 but for an Airbus or even a corporate jet that small fuel savings can make it worth the added expense. Many smaller aircraft have them but the type of wing they are installed on is important. A lower speed high lift wing, such as a Citabria, will not benefit near as much as a higher speed wing such as that found on Glassairs.

expensive here is not the reason,a winglet cannot cost that much.i have watched a documentary about the B747-400 and they said that a winglet is not that expansive.imagine,if a winglet(made of the same material as the whole plane) is expansive, how on earth are they goin to have money to built a plane when they cun't even afford to pay for a winglet that small.

Wings have less lift and increased drag at the tips because high pressure air from below the wing flows around the wingtip to the low pressure area above the wing. Sailplanes reduce this problem by having very long wings, so more wing and less tip, but another way is winglets, which are basically like small vertical wings or fences at the tip to prevent that flow.

Because some planes have more weight mostly commercial airliners. And the airline wants to be more economic because every penny counts so they use the winglets so the plane can be more fuel efficient and use less fuel. Fuel or Kerosene is money.

Winglets only cause a minute increase in efficiency, therefore it doesn't makes the narrow body aircraft(B737,A320) feasible for long haul. The increase in efficiency is clearly visible if these aircrafts fly to their maximum range.

It is expensive. Planes are depreciateing every day and it is just not worth the expense. Airlines are trying to save money and just cut every corner. Cost here is prohibitive at 90.00 hr for labor at a 145 repair station

The winglets grant further carry from the wings. seem on the way they are formed, that's amazingly designed to channel the airflow to a particular area......... btw attempt posting in carsandtransportationunder plane and also you'll get ALOT of reliable reaction

Modifications to aircraft require a lot of money an paperwork.

Because they cost money and not everyone is convinced with the efficiency for the price.
