And "Americans" say they want everyone to "do it the legal way"?!?
THERE IS NO LEGAL WAY.
20 years ago and earlier it was very easy. Now unless you win a lottery, you can't come! There are so many specialists who are not granted visas even to visit!
Why are you surprised then that people overstay their visas and become illegals?
Do you even know how hard it is to OBTAIN a visa?
I've come legally, pay taxes, speak excellent English, have no criminal record, yet I now I'm treated as an illegal immigrant without any chance to legalize!
Why is your govmt so stupid?!?
Not every illegal has sneaked in! We are educated people, many from Europe! We can only contribute and we do!

Tell me about it. I was just blessed to get a Visa... and this was because we got them when we were young, and because we have tied to the country we live in, we get the renewal of visas. Unless you have a good paying job, some asset, and a home / appartment, you cannot get a visa. In JA, it has even become harder to get a visa - the cost is ultra more, the process is ultra harsh, and the chances of getting one now, since 9/11 is minimal. In terms of legal immigration - the lottery seems crude, as the chances of getting through is rather small. Another option however is if someone has filed on your/family's behalf. I am not really surprised though that people overstay - yes, you have people who may curse the U.S.A. for God knows what, but nevertheless, they stay because they know in their hearts that they are chances and means of living and survivial. The reason why they are considered illegial is that they overstay their time, their visas become expired and they are living lives with the proper amenities at their reach. If you want to obtain a visa, I would advise you to visit a counsolate in your country for more information. Its very sad to know that they treat people like us with disdain - and disrespect. We mostly get the same treatment in most places - no matter how qualified or distinguished we are, we end up being like criminals. Like we say "Once Bitten, Twice Shy" - simple - because they have been attacked, they are launching out to attack back, so its automatic that everyone else is seen as a criminal.
Whatever you do, still try to get a visa or permament papers to go and live in the USA because as "bad" at it seem, there is still greener pastures on the other side.

I here it's hard to get in but their are people being sworn in everyday, from all over the world, Did you ever stop to think maybe we don't want any more immigrants for awhile that is our option we have a right to say who comes in and who stays. I know you can't came right away you have to waite a long time, but people do it everyday, and the people that have been waiting the longest gets in first. Did you stop to think our government has caught on to that practice of over staying your visa, that's why their not issuing visas that easily any more. Or because of 9-11 their more carefull now, I am sure you contribute a lot to our society, but besides being over run on our southern border, other immigrants up to 800 thousand sneak in every year. and if you came legally why do you feel like an illegal immigrant. Or did you over stay your visa also. And if you think our government is so stupid maybe you should go somewhere else and live, you don't seem happy here.

"Americans" aren't all the same, first of all. And "don't" "put" "quotes" "around" random things that aren't really quotes.

I'm Californian, and yes, I agree that it's hard to get a visa. But it isn't a lottery. I have nothing against immigrants, and I understand how much hope a lot of them put in going to America.

As to why the government is so stupid - look at the president. All the majorities are Republican right now. The government is conservative, of course they want to make it hard for immigrants to come in, even though America is a country of immigrants.

By the way, technically, breaking the immigration laws means you're here illegally; whether you were legal at first has no bearing on your status now. It's like saying you've never committed a crime in your life, so if you murder somebody now, it won't count.

I've done my homework, and America, other than England has the easier programs for legal immigration in the world, and in many cases provide financial assistance for legal immigration. This money for these sponsored programs come from the American people, and the high taxes that they pay.
However, even with the simpleness of our laws in the past, many felt it was just easier to disregard the laws of the country they would now be asking to protect them.
This is a double standard, that could, and would bring you a death sentence in other countries.
And, after so many Illegal Immigrants from around the world taking advantage of the compassion of the American people, and Amnesty, the Americans have had enough.
I know that most people around the world believe that America and her people are only there to help them, but that is a mistake.
When you migrated here Illegally, did you come here to help America, or yourself?
I have yet to hear an Illegal Immigrant say that they came here to help America, and to pay back the kindness that has been shown to them with our Amnesty Bills, free food, and housing programs, plus grants to help them open their own businesses.
All I have heard is that they come for themselves.
Please don't bother to come, if you can't abide by our laws.
Americans do not live in a free society, too many illegal Immigrants with stolen identities are voting against the freedoms of America.
They believe that if they vote the way the presidents want them to when Americans say their off supporting these criminals, the president will protect them.

Since the middle class subsidizes services like education and health care for the poor, even those who pay taxes, many more poor want to come than can be absorbed by our services without degrading the services for our own people. Our middle class cannot pay for services for the poor of the entire world. Meanwhile our education and health systems are already failing.

Like every developed country that subsidizes services, we limit the number of poor immigrants that can come. That is the number we are willing to pay for and the number we can have here without it being too much at the expense of our own people. Those here illegally think they have an entitlement to get these subsidized services just because they don't want to wait in line. They don't. They are stealing them.

What makes you think that they have a right to be here and that if it takes 'too long' in their opinion before their number is up, they have the right to do it illegally? I don't have a right to steal a Ferrari because in the real world it is impossible for me to get one legally.

It's not impossible, that's a snow job to bring as many here as can fit into our crevices and add to our human suffering that we already have. Perhaps you haven't seen the US Census bureau site that says they're be three time more hispanic descent than all other groups combined.

That's like saying everyone in Europe all moved to Ireland to get a better life. What would you expect Ireland to do?

The fact that all of this debate is going on around the country and in the U.S. congress is evidence that reforms need to be made. A nation built by immigrants should not discriminate against those who wish to help us be stronger. Changes need to be made and soon.

i guess most specialists want to come because america has higher pay for many jobs, but he's right, it isn't easy, although, if you have a degree or 4-5 years exp, it does provide a way to get a work visa.
