Do you feel that a lot of people who beleive in a specific religion do not think about their beliefs?

Is it dangerous to have such dogma available to people, and to have a lot of people blindly following what their parents or community believe and not think about things before investing so much faith and belief in them?

Just want to get you guys' opinion on this. Thanks!

Yeah, I think a lot of people blindly follow a religion, especially those who want to feel like they're part of a group. Acceptance is such a big deal with a lot of people, and I know some people who actually think they're better than others just because they follow some religion.

However, I'm not real sure that it matters which belief system one belongs to - i look at it as a way to help get through life. A lot of beliefs seem to be very similar anyways, so maybe it wouldn't make much of a difference whether or not the person actually analyzed each religion and then decided which one to follow.
Good question!

Blind Faith? Great Band!

Actually, I do believe there are a lot of people that believe in "faith by the numbers", but in some cases, these are simple and uneducated folks. They're salt of the earth and mostly very gentle folks...however, there are also others that don't make the effort to "seek" the truth and would rather it spoon fed to them. I feel this is the majority. You can pretty well tell by how they respond when they're challenged on any point, they can rarely site scripture or articulate their thoughts.

This doesn't make them evil or bad people, just a bit lazy or perhaps gullible. And don't forget, there are also what I like to call "Ala carte" or "Buffet" Christians. Those who like to pick and choose what ever they like while eschewing what they don't.

Is it dangerous? I suppose it can be, but not anymore dangerous that accepting anything else you're told at face value...look at the Internet. People choose to believe much of what's here because it's in writing. Many feel that people wouldn't have bothered to write it if it wasn't true.

It is an unfortunate circumstance that exists all over the world. People do not take the time to really study what they are doing and the religion that they are a part of. That is one of the reasons taht so many people get caught up in cults and so many are crushed when opposition comes their way challengin their faith and all they can say is that that is what their parents or their pastor/priest/rabbi told them. I challenge people to really look into what they believe critically. if for no other reason, at least to be able to successfully defend what you believe.

Yes I do ! I used to not really pay attention to stuff like that. I always knew or thought that there was a God and i just left it at that ! And i think that is true of a lot of people too !
There are those who just like to tell themselves there isn't a God, but there are those who say , " yeah" thers a God, " I believe in God " And just allow everyone to believe in their own things," Their own gods.
But i came to realize that people dont question where their belief comes from, I never did until recently. Lets use the catholic faith for example, thats what I was brought up into. Do people question what its all about, where it originates and why do they say the things they say in any R.C. church . is anyone listening to what they priests say in those chuches ?
Well one day i began to question those things and it wasn't until i did that i began to recieve knowledge about the whole institution,
And if i may its awesome to find out what you believe in especially if you claim to know God .

of course, blind faith is as stupid as no faith at all. "Faith" without constant revison leads to one just following what others think, and say. You become a mindless sheep/zombie.

Think of it this way, if your priest told you that eating sheep brains was a good thing, would you do it? I mean that its rather stupid to assume that everyone has the exact same spiritual needs....

Why would the divien want mindless cattle? The idea is absurd, yet many run screaming from others that are not sheep.

"religion is a club hence the beatings, spirituality is a journey hence the path"

I know that when I was looking for a church to attend I didn't realize all of the different beliefs that each church followed. I do believe that alot of people are blindly following others, not really taking the time to dig into what the church's rules and beliefs are.The church I attend for instance believes that Christ, God and the Holy Spirit are one, The older you get the farther you will dig into the Bible and your church. Good luck in your journey.

Yes, I think it is true what you say...I for a very long time also just believed everything that was taught to me or said by others(in
the faith arena)..now I am not so sure about everything anymore, because I started to ask questions and I must admit
I seriously doubt everything I believed in once and I don't find any proof either to make me belief so strongly as I did again..

I think alot of them dont. They just follow what they are taught, and this can be anyone, even atheists too.

Think of it, ou are raised from birth there is no god/is a god. You are raised not to follow/to follow. You are taught to not believe/believe. At some point, you are subject to the thought of your parents, there friends, families, communities.

No, you reach an age where ou are free to look into all of it, and form your on opinions. I think many people will stick with what they are taught, and not bother looking into it further. And pass it on to their kids.

Noone is an exception, atheists, agnostice, cathilocs, baptist, islamics, or jews. Pick ANY one religion or non religion, and you will find the same thing.

First of all, you cannot prove "faith." Faith is simply faith. You cannot prove or disapprove faith, it is either something you have or don't have. Secondly, I don't believe there is anything wrong with doing some investigation, reading, questioning before committing yourself to something. For example, I am Christian. I talked to other Christians, read Christian articles, and books before I recommitted myself to Christ.

If you're looking to prove something exists, I doubt you will find what you want. There are historical documents examaining the reliability of the Old and New Testament documents. I have faith in God and Jesus because I have felt a change. I have a felt in myself and a void in my life fill up.

People blindly follow at least in part because they are afraid of what they have been told will or could happen if they question.
They could go to hell. Or lose their faith *gasp* and have their wholes life's meaning be turned upsidedown. (I've been there) And as a result they could lose their Christian friends who don't understand what they are going though, so on and so forth.
