You can either take her to the vet and they will be able to collect the sample from your can or else you can buy NO SORB from the vet. it is a form of litter except it doesn't absord the urine at all. I work in a vet and that is what we use. If taken to the vet they can manually squeeze her bladder which will make her urinate. The other thing you can use if you are trying to collect a sample at home are the small stones/pebbles that you put in the bottom of fish tanks. Lock her in a room with just water for a few hours then put the litter box in the room with her. Or leave her overnight with no litter box just water.

Use those little styrofoam "peanuts" people use when boxing things for shipping with UPS or FedEx, in a clean litter box. These will not absorb the urine and she will have something to "cover" with. Like the others have said, leave her alone overnight in a room with water and that type of box and you should have a sample by morning. Yes, a vet should be able to collect this for you, either by pressure to the bladder or a direct puncture to extract, or a catheter. If she's not going AT ALL ... take her to the Pet emergency right away.

Good luck,,, I don't understand why a Vet would ask you to do that. For 2 reason,s. 1 , you are going to teach a cat very fast not to use the cat box. And 2 bacteria from you collecting it is unavoidable. Which means you will get untrue results. Most all vets will catheterize to collect a urine sample for those reason, number one reason is that the sample is sterile and the results come back with true results. Catheterizing is a fast, simple and the best way to collect urine, and it does not harm the cat in any way , and you will get true results. Also you are not teaching your cat a bad habit of not using the cat box. Please ask vet to collect the urine , the sterile way. Good Luck.

Cats don't go to the toilet where there's nothing for them to cover up their excrement with. So asking her to use an empty box to pass water in is as well as giving her nothing to pass in at all. It's hard, but has your vet suggested ways to collect the urine sample?
I would give a call to the vet to seek advice.
Just as a suggestion, see if you can tape a lil' sterile pastic container or bag to your cat's urethra, and allow her to use the litter box. Do remember that this is really a hit or miss method, and might take quite a while before you get anything at all.
As a last resort, your vet might suggest doing an in-out catherization to get the sample.
Good luck!

Use NO BOX. She'll have to go on the floor, but you will be able to scoop up a sample.
or If you prefer, use a plastic box (so it won't absorb the urine)-- you can use a filter or a screen and set it above the base by a couple of items (that won't absorb). Then it will collect on the bottom of the cat box.

The fact that she's having trouble going to the bathroom, is probably why you haven't been able to get a urine sample, despite your efforts. Veterinarians can get a urine sample, you don't need to. Let the vet do it, it'll be done faster.

I've been a vet tech for 4 years and what seems to work best if u want to get a sample at home is to just cut up plastic bags into strips and use that in the place of it's litter. i saw in someones post to use packing peanuts, but most companies make them out of cornstarch now so that they are safe to the environment, and when they get wet they dissolve. if u cant get it this way u should drop the cat off at your vet and let them get a sample.

Your are up against nature on this one, so you have to be a bit creative.
Get a very clean litter box and tear up a roll of paper towels into strips to fill it with. Isolate her with the box, so that no other cats can use it. When she goes, collect the wet strips and put them into a paper bag to take to your vet.
They can extract the urine from the wet paper towels just like we squeeze the water out of them when we need to.
Good luck
Let us know how it comes (no pun intended) out with your cat

Try putting her in a crate with a small litter box with nothing in it. Sooner or later she will go. I know it is very hard to get that sample. You may have to leave her at the vets for them to get that sample.
I hope she feels better soon.

Don't drink it though. I though you were supposed to take the cat to a veterinarian to get the urine sample.
