I ask this because I used to have two friends who my cat HATED. She would cower in the corner and hiss and spit whenever they were over at my house, regardless of if they came near her. She wasn't much of a people cat, but she didn't act this way around any of my other friends. Neither of these two people are my friend anymore. Was this my cat's way of saying, neither of these people are a good fit in my owner's life?
Has this ever happened with anyone else?

It's not that I got rid of my friends because my cat didn't like them. We just had a falling out, eventually.

Yes, our pets are more in tuned with our own psyche than you give them credit for. Sometimes, they are even more intune than you are of yourself.
My own cat, Jinx, is a great judge of character. He would always be the first to know when someone can't be trusted, or when someone's heart is just golden. A very good example was with my ex-fiance, who Jinx hated. He wouldn't allow the guy to touch him at all! Turned out, that man was a complete leech and loser. Jinx's amazing ability to judge character has been proven true time and time again with other people in my family's lives.
I'm a vegetarian, and have loved animals all my love. Strange thing is, whenever I'm near animals, they seem to instinctively know they can come near me without getting hurt, especially animals who've been traumatised before.
So yes, I do believe in the ability of animals to judge people's characters.

Absolutely. I wouldn't go only on my cat's judgement, but I would take their reactions into consideration. I know that cats can tell the difference between positive and negative energy in people - they can even tell when you're getting sick! Since your cat isn't a fan of people generally, it's hard to say if that there was something about your ex-friends that the cat didn't like. However, if this cat is friendly and personable with all of your other friends, then it was clearly sending you a message.

It is probably more likely they were carrying a smell your cat did not like.
Dogs and cats, and most predators live and die from smell. Cats are less obvious about it than dogs, who wander around smelling each other's butts, but cats have the same tendency.
I wouldn't sweat it to much. Your cat did not tell anything other than it did not like the way those two friends were smelling.

Well, I had a dog that I wish I'd trusted his intuitiveness. I ended up marrying a guy that he didn't like or trust, and after 10 days, I kicked the bastard out of my home. The dog tried to warn me, but I thought I knew better. Was I ever wrong. Turned out the creep would beat my dog while I was away because he was jealous. After being married 10 days, he took a swing at me and that was the end of that. I always felt a huge sense of guilt that I didn't realize that he was hurting my dog - he tried so hard to tell me that I was next.

Cats are very self centered I wouldnt get rid of a friend because my cat didnt like them, but a dog is different it is sensitive to emotions but not a cat.

i'm not sure if all that is really being comuptated by the cat. i know people says pets are smart and this and that, i dont buy it. its probably a matter of comfort or on a more biological level...animals sense and react to different phermones that we humans naturally give off...
so...maybe the cat didn't like ur friends' chemicals???

completely and without a doubt, yes. i remember whenever i'd cry a cat that we used to have when i lived at my mom's house would jump up and lick my nose. lol. and whenever i'm sad even know mr. whiskers will come over....they trust me, so they don't run from company. even the vet. cats are DEFINITELY good judges of character. *nods*

certainly better than a dog. A dog is just a slave who is desperate to please you, the owner. A cat assesses everyone including you. They are individuals.

I would say yes... animals can detect things about other humans; even their own human that we don't know... dog's will do it too. It's an unknown phenomenon !
