Yes. If you have digital cable, just make sure that the cable box is on and is plugged into your VCR or DVR (I hook the cable to the VCR and the VCR to the TV. That way I can record anytime I want without switching. The VCR, in this case, must always be set to channel 3. The TV will pick up on the cable through the VCR even if the VCR is not on. If you do not have digital cable (you have ordinary cable), just plug the cable into the VCR. Just program in what channel you wish to record. In this case, you can watch one thing on the TV, while recording another on the VCR. Hope this helps.

I can record from the cable with the tv off. If your cable box is turned on and the VCR is on, then you should still be able to do it. You just don't see the picture because the tv is off.

How did you turn them on with out the distant? search for a button categorised CCD or some thing similar on the direct television distant. If all else fails, evaluate procuring a cheep commonly used distant with a subtitle button. i have seen them round $5 at dollar regular, yet i do not understand in the adventure that they have got that distinct button or no longer.

I think if you have your cable set up through your VCR you might be able to. You should check up on your VCR's manual thing to figure it out for sure.
