Check out your local pet store. There are food products and treats as well as vitamins and diet supplements that you can give your cat to help prevent hair balls. Also make sure that you brush your cat on a regular basis. They pick up hair in their system from cleaning themselves, and brushing will help control any excess shedding.

The easiest thing is to get the cat treats that have the hairball remedy built in. You can use a bunch at first to stop the hairballs and less over time to prevent them. It's much easier and tastier for the cat than oils. I used to really like the Friskies brand hairball treats in the orange package. Now, I use Iam indoor cat hairball control kibble which works all the time to prevent hairballs.

My cat had a horrible problem with hairballs. I tried oils and such, they weren't that effective. The most effective thing I have found is to buy cat food that is made especially for them. I started using Iams Hairball and Weight Control formula, which worked very well. However, I recently found Purina Indoor Formula. It works great and is cheaper than Iams! Good Luck!

Go to a pet shop and get a tube of anti-hairball gel, and give it to your pet as per instructions. If you're talking about a cat, there're good quality dry cat food with anti-hairball formulas in them in the market. Likewise, your vet or pet shop owners should be able to advise you on that. Finally, groom your pet at least once a day, more regularly if he/ she is long-haired, to prevent your pet from ingesting his/ her own hair during self-grooming. This is especially so for cats, which are meticulous groomers.
Good luck!

The best way I've ever used is a bit of Vaseline. Just put a wee dab on the back of their paws, not enough that they can shake it off, just enough that they have to lick it off. They'll look royally disgusted with you but the Vaseline coats their throats and helps them pass hairballs naturally. I've heard a more natural option is olive or corn oil instead Vaseline, but I've never had to try it.

Mineral Oil is one good way, but be aware that it can cause diarrhea. Best way to get rid of hair balls is to brush your cat on a daily basis to rid it of excess hair. There is also a salve you can put on the cats paw. It will lick it off and allow it to easly dissolve the hairball.

there is a special medicine that you can get that will cut down drastically on hairballs. you can also be sure to brush your cat on a regular basis. cause as long as kitty grooms himself, you are going to get hairballs. just cut down the amount of hair the kitty licks off himself.

There is a hairball medicine that comes in toothpaste-like tube, the medicine has a caramel color and it smells like sweet molasses. My cats absolutely love it and it works really well.
