I am a CODA and yes you need to get your doctor to write you a letter to the landlord saying that your dog is helpful in your day to day existance. the landlord has to have this note to justify waiving the pet deposit even if they know what your reasons are. my mother is also deaf and has a dog that alerts her to everything going on he saved her from a burgular one time.i wish you the best of luck..

She wants you to go to your doctor to get a note that you are deaf and the dog is a benefit in helping you.
You should also be aware that any damage your pet does in the apartment beyond normal wear and tear you are still liable for with or without a deposit.

I think that "proof" should be quite unnecessary in your personal situation. But, that being said, I think the proof would be that you are deaf, and therefore the dog is more than a pet, it's your lifeline to the world and a necessity. I think it's great they are willing to waive the deposit for you, and wouldn't hesitate to follow up on their request. More than anything, it's probably just a "corporate" type requirement, and needs to be on file should anyone else in the apartment complex have a problem with it.

Your Primary Care Doctor should be able to give you a note that states you are deaf and that the dog is neccesary for you to have because you are hearing impared. The only thing you need from the vet is that the dogs vaccines are current.

I would think that they mean you need to get a note from your doctor stating that because of your deafness, you need a dog to help alert you to a visitor at the door, the phone ringing, etc. I guess someone could claim to be deaf just to get to keep a dog. Maybe that has happened to them before.

lol it sounds like she's talking about a doctors note saying that you need the dog. Be patient with her, she probably hasn't encountered many deaf people or people that are different from her for that matter and just made that note thing up off the top of her head

You need to prove that the dog is a necessity in your life. Not that you are deaf. So I think you need a note from both your doctor and vet.
