Depends... if you were really good friends before, then he probably doesn't want to lose that aspect of the relationship. I have a good friend like this (we were best friends all through high school, then we "dated" a little in college, but when she didin't want to "get intimate" any more, we were able to maintain the friendship).

If you weren't great friends before, or never met until you started dating, or if it was maybe a short-lived relationship...then he is just keeping you on the line for a future hookup. It's a lot easier (for both of you) to hook up when you're needy because you've been together before. Plus maybe you were a great lay.

The only other option is he's still madly in love with you. He wants to keep in touch so that one day he can try to ge tback in your life, and maybe create a bigger flame. If you think it's option 2 or 3, and you're not interested...quit being his friend now it'll just hurt him later if you're not gonna be there for what he's expecting.

Not true for all of us. My ex and I never talk anymore, I told her that I didn't ever want to talk to or see her again. I don't want to be her friend even. He is probably doing the back pocket thing like stated by the person above. I would just tell him you do not want to keep in contact. Because there is really no point.

Well, I'm not a guy, but I think I know why. You mattered enough to him to go out, so even if his feelings aren't that strong anymore, they're still there. Unless you have a really big fight, you still matter to the guy. Like I said, he used to think you were an important enough person to go out with, so some feelings still remain.

They either are hoping they can get you back or need a sex partner.
