Today, I think that most, if not all, organized religions are off the mark a bit. To rephrase, while I am struggling with the notion of God, I know that I do not believe in the God that Jews, Christians, Muslims, and Bahai's belive in. Today, I believe that if there is a God, that he/she/it pressed the "start button" and left us to work out the rest for ourselves.

Spirituality is sitting in a boat thinking about God.
Religion is sitting in church thinking about fishing!

You can have religion (rituals and codes of conduct) with a God.
It is difficult to imagine having spirituality without a God however.
I am not saying either is right as there are some very Spiritual people doing good things and some very religious people doing some bad things (and the other way around)
You can have both, what you are doing by asking questions is seeking your own path and understanding.
Good for you!

I know a lot of Christians treat "religion" as though it were a leper, but a lot of the ideas about God that we latch onto so easily today - ideas such as the divinity of Christ, his unity with the Father and the Holy Spirit - these are issues that were painfully hashed out by _religion_ in Christianity's early years.

The truth is both have their place: religion without spirituality is a pointless expenditure of an hour every Sunday. Spirituality without religion is devoid of discipline and thought, and casts all our hope on the shoals of pure emotion. That can be satisfying for a time, but eventually you yearn for more.

Religion and spirituality go arm and arm. We each have to work out the right balance in our lives.

Religion is designed to build a structure within a church organization. Spirituality is a lifestyle choice based on the composition of man, i.e. we are first spirits, we have souls (our mind, personality and intellect) and, while in school on this earth, we our housed inside a physical body that Jesus referred to as a "tent." Less attention is paid to our spiritual selves while on this earth, because getting to that point requires that we seek out this knowledge. Once we realize that the spiritual is more real than this "temporary" physical self it's easy to see that "religion" has little to do with our connection to the spiritual. Especially when the religion ignores the nurturing of that part of our makeup. My point? Be very leary of organizations that promote their religion over the written word of God.

i call myself a spiritual being. i am non-denominational, but take the things that vibe with me from all the different religious and spiritual text that i study.- my beliefs grow and change as i learn more, discover new things and my consciousness grows.

religion is too much of a closed concept for me, but i believe they all have goodness and can be used as tools to understand the Divine. they are the signposts that point towards the truth. i also believe that most all organized religions are deeply flawed and misused. as well as many new age type spiritual concepts. we all have an internal guidance system. believe what feels right to you. we are all beautifully different, and your soul will guide you towards the path that feels best to you.

*peace

I believe in both. Religion because it's something I'm battling against and Spirituality which I'm trying to spread.

I believe in Spirituality. I only believe religion is real and among us, but I wouldn't give you 2 cents for any or all of them.

Some of the universals of religion are as follows:

"That God is one, and that there is a conjunction of charity and faith" (Soul and Body n. 20).

Also, "This only One and very Self is omnipresent, omniscient and omnipotent. This also every Christian acknowledges from his doctrine and every gentile from his religion. In consequence, wherever he is, a man thinks that God is there and that he prays to God at hand; thinking and praying so, men cannot but think that God is everywhere, that is, omnipresent [in all places at all times]; likewise omniscient [all knowing] and omnipotent [all powerful]. Everyone praying to God, therefore, implores Him from the heart to lead him because He can lead him; thus he acknowledges the divine omnipresence, omniscience and omnipotence, doing so in turning his face to the Lord; thereupon the truth flows in from the Lord" (Divine Providence n. 157).

Also, "There are three essentials of the church: acknowledgment of the divine of the Lord, acknowledgment of the holiness of the Word [Bible], and the life which is called charity" (Divine Providence n. 259[3]).

Also, "Every man [or woman] can be saved, and those are saved who acknowledge God and live rightly" (Divine Providence n. 325).

Spirituality!

Religion is a human construct, heir to all the fallacies of all human constructs. Religions are top-down constructs, someone else interprets "god's" word, and creates for you "THE" way to act, to think, and to behave. Religion is political.

Spirituality is YOUR OWN contract with "god". I am ultimately responsible for my actions. I cannot say "I Believe" because I do not believe. Belief is unquestioning acceptance, and it is our role to question.

Finally, with religion, it is very easy to say "God is on my side" and then "Have at it". With spirituality, I am either on God's side or I am not; if I am on God's side, I cannot "Have at it" with anyone.
