I use Frontline Plus now and it's the best I've ever tried. Unfortunately it's also one of the most expensive. They recommend putting it on every month but I usually go about 6 weeks and it works great. I buy mine from the Petshed.com. That is the best deal I've found. Whatever you buy don't buy it from PetMeds.com, they are the most expensive.

And if you buy anything from Hartz, you may as well put your money in the fire because it won't work.

As far as what swbilio says...not true. Frontline Plus gets rid of them completely, 100%, end of story. Eggs, larvea, adults....everything.

From personal experience, do not use any of the cheap stuff you can buy over the counter. I mean it, Zodiak sent my animal to the emergency vets with only a 50/50 chance of survival. He did make it, but I found out that the non-prescription treatment manufacturers put a chemical agent in their treatments that are not necessary to kill fleas, and can have disastrous results if the animal has a reaction to it. So, to that end, I use advantage or front line. If you are unable to spend the money for that, get some good old Dawn dish soap, wash the dog with that, it will kill the fleas. Then you can get some diatrimetric earth at a health food store. It's a natural product, that is in a powder form, and is perfectly safe for everyone. It dehydrates the fleas and the eggs so that they die. You can sprinkle it on the carpet, furniture and bedding, anywhere. I learned about this product when my own father was dying of cancer. While staying with my, my feline brought in some flea companions. He could not be exposed to any chemicals, such as flea sprays and such, and the vet turned me on to this. It's very cheap and it works.

You should give your dog a bath with a flea shampoo; this will help to kill whatever is on him already. Then brush him out with a flea comb; this will remove dead fleas. Use a topical medicine, such as Advantage or Frontline to keep fleas from coming back. Both Advantage and Frontline will kill fleas and eggs within 24-48 hours and prevent fleas and eggs from coming back. Frontline also works against ticks, so if they are an issue in your area, you should use Frontline instead of Advantage.

It isn't just about the medicine. Sure, you have to treat your dog and any of the treatments available work fairly well. But that isn't the end of it. Your dog picks up fleas in your backyard, so you have to treat the backyard so he doesn't pick them up again next time he's outside. When he brings the fleas inside, they don't just stay on him, they get into the carpet, and his bedding, and YOUR bedding, and anywhere else he goes. You have to treat all of that.

Wait - there's more! Say you treat your dog and you spray the backyard and you wash all of the bedding in your house and shampoo your carpets and steam clean your furniture ... you've killed and removed the live fleas. But they laid eggs, and the eggs don't kill or remove as easily. A week or so later, the eggs hatch and you have a whole new batch of fleas to deal with, fleas that will get busy very quickly and lay a bunch more eggs. You need to treat and clean all of these areas multiple times in a short period to completely prevent a recurring problem.

Vets will make up any story so that you won't buy the otc stuff.
Agreed--Zodiac and Hartz are BAD.

All the topicals were studied. Bio Spot came out on top. It works better and lasts longer.
Frontline and Advantage are vet sold and more expensive, but they do work.
I've used Bio Spot for more than 10 years, on all mine and on all the rescues I've had. No Fleas, no ticks, and it helps to protect from mosquitoes.
Any dog can have a reactions to anything at anytime. You won't know till you try it.

Frontline does work well read all directions and precautions so you use this product properly or it will not work properly, no bathing 48 hours prior to or after application. If you go to the hardware store they have a chemical you out on your lawn called diazanon. It is applied easily follow directions al you do is spread it out wet it down & ** do not allow pets or children on applied product until 24 hours after application. It works great it usually last 3-4 months it keeps fleas, gnats, flies, ticks, and mosquitos away.

advantage works great i brought my puppy to the vet a couple of days ago they gave her a pilll to kill all the flea on her in 1 hour but it only lasted a day and they gave me a free tube of advantage to put on her when the other stuff stopped working. She still has no fleas and she was covered when i got her. But advantage usally cost between 13.00 to 18.00 a tube depending on the size of your dog and it good for one month Good Luck with your fleas
