I'm getting great ideas, y'all. Thanks for all of your encouragement as well!

Marcus: "We" refers to the two names in the handle (kristenandjohnny), so that would be Kristen (me) and Johnny.

carrots and gum... and also something that you can hold in your fingers that you smoke with and put to your mouth but not actually smoke. that's why I said carrots cause they usually help. but you end up eating a lot of carrots, so be careful. you don't want to turn orange. keep a pen or even better a straw, cause then you can inhale, but all you're inhaling is air which is good for you. trust me it works.

First off smoking does not make anyone look cool. How does your friend (no friend in my opinion) make you start smoking again? If you do not have the desire to quit then it is a waste of time because success is doubtful at best. I quit smoking 6 years ago (after smoking for 30+ years) and I did it rather easily. I purposely did not get a flu shot in 2001 and caught the flu. Then, when my symptoms were at their absolute worse I went outside and lit up a Marlboro Red and inhaled deeply. I imagine it would be the equivalent of 'sucking on the end of a flamethrower". It hurt like hell. In a few days when I got to feeling better every time I got a craving I just thought back to the last sensation I got from smoking (extreme pain) and that did the trick. I still get occasional cravings but carry sugar free (0 calories) mints to pop in my mouth in lieu of a cigarette. After a while I could not stand the smell of cigarette smoke. Good luck should you decide to do it. Plus take all the funds wasted on smokes and put them aside in a savings account and watch the money pile up! Mostly it is mind over matter. For withdrawal the nicotine patches should cut down on those symptoms.

Sorry you can't buy this at the store: WILLPOWER

Here are some tips, I quit 5 years ago after 42 years of two packs a day:

You must really want to quit

Tell everyone you know you are quitting (peer pressure)

Stay away from smoking situations

Stay away from smokers if possible

Count every day as a triumph (you will be surprised how fast they go by.

If you really mean to quit you will not get the urges as strongly as you may think, so bear with it and good luck.

Give yourself a reward (goal) I would shoot for a date with Carrie P., wow what a stunner, if I wasn't such an old fart I would go for it......

Start Exercizing and use gum. I quit over three years ago, and let me tell you it was the most stressful thing that I have ever done, you have to really want to quit, but I know that you can do it. Make sure that when you guys start griping at each other, that you know it is not personal, it is the addiction talking, because you will get b*tchy. Try the patch, too. Good Luck, God Bless!

I stopped smoking 8 days ago, I use the patch, buy lots of gum, have sugar free chocolates and other junk foods (you will eat all day) and take it one day at a time, if you cheat, turn the cigarette off, and try again. (I’ve been having 2 puffs a day, and it tastes different after the second puff, it’s not the flavor I miss, so I turn it off….. I guess I need a 2 puff reminder a day)

nicorette do an inhalator,it looks like a cig. holder, inside you put a 10mil capsule that holds nicotine, when your absolutely gasping for a cig, ithchy eyes and fidgity draw on it like a cig. the nicotine makes you cough at first but will bring instant relief from the craving with no smoke to poison your blood and lungs etc.it made it almost easy to stop, also stock up on low calorie nibbles as your appetite will increase, try to keep busy, the inhalator before bed stops another side effect of quitting wich is upset sleep.gud luck as the days pass your circulation and toilet visits will improve drastically,x

I know it's going to seem weird and look funny to your friends, but if you've seen the new release "A Prarie Home Companion", you will see Woody Harrelson setting the trend with one of these "chew sticks".
It is a truly remarkable transition from the comfort zone of the cigarette.
Try it!
....Works for me!

Nothing.Patches & gum release nicotene and keep the craving going whereas if one quits cold turkey the nicotene is out of the system in 72 hours. The rest is psychological. The studies over decades have continually shown cold turkey to be the most effective method over anything else.

My mother died a horrible death this Tuesday from emphysema. Please stop today for yourself and the ones who love you. Count me among them. You are in my prayers and I wish you success. God bless you.

There's a special chewing-gum that contains a tiny amount of nicotine. It helps a lot in kicking the habit.
