Would your dad rather:
- do something as a family? (zoo, museum, shopping?)
- work on a project? (basement, garage, something he has put off but wants to do?)
- kick back and relax/nap?
- go out to eat and celebrate?
- etc.
Is there anything you can do to facilitate that?
Right now, my 'ideal' Father's Day would be:
- local breakfast buffet (I LOVE breakfast buffets!)
- a few hours to myself to laze in the hammock and read with a cold beverage, my iPod, and a good book (housework done, no lingering jobs hanging around, lawn mowed, etc.)
- a fun dinner with the family- like a pizza or take-out Chinese picnic (somehow, the idea of a big, sloppy multiple-entree Chinese dinner picnic appeals to me!), grilling with the family, a progressive dinner between the kid's houses, etc.
- quiet evening with my spouse- movie and ice cream, for example
OR
- 'Lumberjacks' breakfast- heaps of pancakes, eggs, sausage, OJ, and hash browns or something similar
- spend time with spouse at driving range, movies, or something along those lines
- Dinner in a favorite restaruant
- Kids over for ice cream cake

We as a family let dad sleep in. When he wakes up, we bring him coffee and then breakfast in bed. He gets up and then he has an entire day of whatever he wants to do. We leave that up to him. Plus gifts and cards too.
