Obviously it bothers you since you posted it, so think about what you want out of going partying, do you want to meet people or dance, whatever it is, or are you quiet and shy and only feel like you fit in when you are drunk, or do you just like the feeling of being drunk? Once you have established this, you will figure out a better way to enjoy yourself without being so drunk, its no use having so much fun if you dont get to remember it.

I hate that you are going through this. One piece of advice I can give you, given that you are 12, is to wait for a day when he comes home sober and tell him that you want to talk to him about what he is doing to himself and the family and how it is hurting everyone including himself. Most alcoholics don't realize that they become a different person when they drink and therefore hurt those around them with no regard. If you try this and it doesn't work, then try getting in contact with a counselor. Most of the time, they will recommend what you should do. I didnt have an abusive father, however, I had about 4 drunk uncles that I was around most of my childhood. I know the abuse, whether it were verbal or physical. I am sorry that you are going through this really.

You're only 18 and you think being plastered is okay. Yeah, I say you're an alcoholic only because you admit that you can't go out without getting completely drunk and your family has a history of it. I drink the occasional Long Island, but I have never been plastered. Good luck to you, I hope you try to recieve treatment for this illness.

If you're asking the question, 99.999% of the time you will be. Alcoholism can be passed along in the genes, so since your Granddad had it there's a higher probability you will have it. As an aside, it's easier to quit the earlier it's detected, and you will do much less harm to your body physically, mentally, and emotionally (as well as to those around you). A doctor or AA can help answer your questions and provide guidance if you're willing to listen.

The only person that can tell you if you are an alcoholic is yourself! There is nothing to be with age. Take the AA autodiagnostic, answer honestly, and if you are, go and get help. You don't have to be ashamed, there is a solution, but i hope you are not.
Good luck. Click into this link:

Sounds like you are. If you are asking the question, more than likely it means you already know the answer--yes. My dad was just like you. You don't have to hide the whiskey bottles in the toilet tank and drink before breakfast to be an alcoholic. I think you need some help. The first step is admitting it.

Yes I think you are. Please be careful, you are only 18 and if you are getting "toasted" every weekend, this will lead to you drinking alone. This is not something to play with. You could rune your life. Try new activities rather then going out drinking or change your circle of friends. Change now, don't regret it later.

Not yet! You could be very easily though. I would suggest stoping thought becuse you are killing brain cells every time you drink. I don't believe that you are very happy with your life. You may have pleasure, but not true happiness. If you have a steady job, a place to live, and friends, you don't need drinking. That what I have to say!

you're 18, 18 year olds usually do that kind of thing, but you're probably just kidding yourself sayingf that you have to get hammered if you drink, my family has had more than its share of alcoholics, father, grandfather, uncles, but im not worried, you've just got to keep things in perspective for yourself, realize how much you're drinking and also realize that sometimes its alright to not drink
