Hmm, forgetfulness and low memory retention doesn't have to be due to restlessness in your sleep or sleeplessness. Memory issues could be a sign of other medical conditions and you should see a neurologist to discuss and get a complete work up. If it is sleeplessness you should have a sleep study done and see exactly what is causing the problem. Sometimes sleeplessness is caused by underlying hormonal issues or depression or a chemical imbalance or not getting enough oxygen when you sleep.. Not have restful sleep is dangerous and can lead to other medical problems. Get help before things become unmanageable. People often wait to long to seek medical help and could have prevented certain medical conditions if they had sought help earlier rather than later... never hurts just to have things checked on.

Frequent dreams would mean a lot of sleep time is spent in a light phase of sleep. That, combined with the noted sleeplessness, would cause mental performance deficits, very definitely, especially regarding memory. There has been a lot of research lately on the effects of poor sleep and on the prevalence of poor sleep, which is high, so you are not alone.
You should look into getting evaluated about your sleep deficit, and/or at least google stuff about "sleep deficits, lack of sleep, sleep research, etc." for tips and tricks that might help you.

Sleeplessness, if severe, would surely affect your cognitive abilities, of which memory. But what is causing both dreams and insomnia may also be directly causing your memory loss. Is it stress? Depression? Anti-Depressants? Other medication? Look into it, talk to a doctor.

Try drinking 7 to 8 glasses of water per day. Your body may be severely dehydrated. The human body is about 70% water so drinking 7 to 8 glasses of water per day may improve your memory.

Sleeplessness for sure. You can't concentrate and remember things if you don't have sleep.
