Australians have their own accent, which sounds something like a cross between an English and an American accent. It's rather hard to describe though - to really hear what an Australian accent sounds like, I would suggest watching an Australian soap opera like Neighbours or Home And Away

Australians, New Zealanders, Canadians and Indians all speak English and were all part of the British Empire, but none of them sound like Brits. Each has its own distinctive accent.

They have an entirely different accent as well as a wonderful variety of slang words. They also abbreviate as many words as possible eg: Football = footie, Australian = Ozzie

Different. And not only is the accent different, but they have many of their own words and collequilisms as well, so a word may mean something in the US, be diferent in the UK, and be different again in Aussie.

G'day mate! Stone the flamin' crows! Only the ruling class Australians have British accents.
Us plebs got this horrible whining tone to our voice. It comes from our convict heritage.
