My boyfriend's aunt passed away in her sleep, but we suspect there may be foulplay. The death came as a huge surprise, she had been in relatively stable health, just old and unable to get around. The family had a caregiver to watch her, but we think the caregiver had been giving her sleeping pills when family wasn't around. Is it possible to overdose on these pills and cause death, even just a small accidental overdose?

Yes! Elderly people's systems are very fragil. Especially with all the drugs they usually take. Was there an autopsy? A blood panel will give you all your answers. If no autopsy - there is a way to check in a hair (hairbrush, etc) as to what chemicals, drugs, etc went into her body. Contact a forensic expert. They can help you! Good Luck!

100% can kill if one is overdosed with sleeping pill! Well an elderly lady may not be able to take even a mild overdose. But in your case even though your aunt may be healthy and stable her life span may have just "time-out" so do not be suspicious as there is no evidence . Learnt to accept her death as "passing away peacefully in her sleep" rather than thinking of funny ideas.....normal human nature of not being able to face the truth as it's painful........Till today after 6 years since my grandma passed away I am still blamming the doctor "she wouldn't have died if the doctor doesn't put her on dialysis as her creatinine is only 400+ and she doesn't need dialysis at this level".........on the other hand I am also thinking...."probably she has gone into a coma......and if we had not given her a preservation jab to preserve her body for 3 days...probably she could have woke up from her coma....and maybe the jab have killed her as she was in coma...." so forget about the overdose stuff and carry on with life.........

Yes, and there is NO such thing as a small accidental overdose....and whoever did that to your family member should be held responcible....what a shame our older american's have to worry about being killed in their sleep because people don't want to deal with them...
