hahaha.. I dont think a solid stainless steel would be comfy.. lol!
GO WITH LEATHER!!! Trust me... its the best way to go. I have a 6 year old and a 4 year old. That are always finding a way to get something dirty. Anyway- I have found that this is the easiest type of couch to clean.

As the mother of a very active (destructive) 4 year old I recommend leather. It can be expensive but it is well worth the money. Everything wipes right off. I did have to lay down some rules after we got it (no shoes allowed on the couch!) but for a cheaper alternative you could always try slipcovers.

Sounds like you want the perfect couch - kid-proof and good enough to satisfy the queen (well, mothers-in-law can expect rather a lot!) You could ask the English Royal family for a suite and a high security prison for the children!
No seriously, good luck finding a new couch; don't let the children ruin it! I would say leather sounds like a good idea - easy to clean and comfortable.

I definitely recommend a dark color like dark gray or navy blue. Never know when one of your kids will take an ink pen to it. Leather holds up really well, but it's expensive. I like microfibre, but make sure to get the stain treatment. That's what I have and it was totally worth every penny I paid. I have a very light beige micro fibre couch and it's still has no stains with the stain guard. All it takes is just a little water to wipe it up.

No offense but Rubbermaid makes a great Yard bench/storage unit, that can accomdate cushions you can dispose of, and the entire thing can be taken outdoors and hosed off.
Forget comfort,,,gee,,,, durabilty of the piece, and maturity of the children, combined with price, should be the only concerns. Let the "outlaw" sit in a chair that is perhaps, HER OWN.
There is no KID Proof stuff on this planet, but consider that they will grow into a non destructive rational, at some point.

A used one and get a new one later!
Just kidding! My parents had a leather couch my entire childhood and it went through 3 kids (2 boys) and all kinds of dogs and spills and puke, and never even cracked or anything. Their couches are like 15 years old and are in great condition! (My brother has them now) If they survived us they can survive your kids. They might be higher but they last waaaay longer. Also, spills are easily wiped up and don't soak in. HINT: Get a dark color just in case.

I raised 5 sons, two daughters a cat and a dog. When my youngest was one year old we bought a new sectional couch. That was 18 years ago,I still have it in my living room it is cream color back ground with country mauve and blue design. It still looks great. The only difference in looks from when it was new,the cushions seem to be a tad thinner. The trick is,teach the kids not to eat in the living room, that's what the kitchen is for!Good Luck!

Unless Fisher-Price has started making furniture, I think you are outta luck. You can try Scotch Gard (it's supposed to protect the upholstery) otherwise you are looking at steam cleaning every so often (I rent a Rug Doctor, works pretty good). You could also cover it with properly fitted plastic (the zip-shut kind to avoid suffocation) but that's woefully old-fashioned and uncomfortable, expecially in the summer.

A well made leather couch is the most durable, but also the most expensive. I would reccommend a dark chenile fabric. It is easy to clean and hides stains very well.
