They are not 100% effective. They do REDUCE the risk of pregnancy and STDs, but they cannot guarantee that they can completely prevent either. There are some tips:

* Use a new condom for each act of intercourse
* Put on the condom as soon as erection occurs and before any sexual contact (vaginal, anal or oral).
* Hold the tip of the condom and unroll it onto the erect penis, leaving space at the tip of the condom, yet ensuring that no air is trapped in the condom's tip.
* Adequate lubrication is important, but use only water-based lubricants on latex condoms. Oil-based lubricants such as petroleum jelly (vaseline), cold cream, hand lotion or baby oil can weaken the latex condom and are not recommended. However, oil-based lubricants can be used with condoms made of polyurethane.
* Withdraw from the partner immediately after ejaculation, holding the condom firmly to keep it from slipping off.

If pregnancy is your only concern, using the pill in combination with a condom is more effective- the pill is 99.9% effective.

If STDs are a concern, and they should be, use extreme caution!
Condoms have the highest rate of protection, but be aware that they can fail. Both you and your partner should get tested for STDs, including HPV and HIV.

That is correct. Condoms do break and slip off. so, they are not 100%. In fact, all of the birthcontrol measures availalbe are not 100% secure. Now, condoms are the best in preventing sexually transmitted diseases other than abstinence. Also, if you are wanting the ultimate in protection the best is to use both an oral birth control plus condoms. This way you are doing what you can to prevent an unwanted pregnancy and protecting yourself from any unwanted sexually transmitted diseases. Again, breaking and slipping does happen, but only in small percentages.

Its true condoms are not 100% secure, MOST couples who use condoms over a period of years have atleast one accident where it rips or tears open. The best thing to do if you want to be super sure, is use two forms of birth control, such as the pill and a condom.

they are only 95% sasfe because they can break and ect, but if it is not expired and does not break then they are 100% safe. In other words, 5 out of a 100 condoms break.

they r NOT 100% sure, any doctor will tell u this... all condoms do is help u from not getting pregnant and there is still a chance u can get pregnant even using condoms. nothing is 100 % sure as far as taking precautions with sexual activity. and u can still get std's, it doesnt protect u at all just cause you use a condom. sorry, dont mean to scare u, but it is true.

The condom is not 100% secure The pregnancy rate is 0.8 to 6.8 per 100 couple years. Its effectiveness is lower than that of oral pills or IUCDs.While withdrawing the penis after intercourse ,sometimes the condom will be dislodged from the penis.

NO!! Condoms are not 100% safe. The safest thing to do is to hold a dime between your knees....sorry,I had to say that. But no,nothing except abstinence is absolutely safe. You have to realize just getting up in the morning is dangerous,so weigh your risks and decide what you want to do.
