note: the DVD recorder is not the DVD burner used in computer, it's the one which is used to record tv program or other video sources onto DVD disc. BTW,do you know which model of DVD record can play region 6 movies?

I wouldnt bother with taking out your desktop hard drive, but you could buy a hard drive at the store and it should work, also is there a usb port it would be even easier to get an external one. My DVD burners are directly connected to my computer so they dont have a hard drive but assuming they use the same type. The problem doesnt sound like a hard drive problem though, I would just go out and buy a dvd burner for you computer they are under 80 bucks these days.
