Q: My face has started turning red when I drink alcohol. I never had this problem until a year ago. What could be causing this?

Many people get a red facial blush when they drink even relatively small amounts of alcohol. Alcohol causes the very tiny blood vessels in the skin to dilate, bringing red blood closer to the surface. This phenomenon is especially common in Asians, with about 50 percent of Asians experiencing this reaction to alcohol. The reason is genetic; those affected have an inactive form of the enzyme needed to break down alcohol's main byproduct, acetaldehyde. The higher levels of acetaldehyde can also cause other symptoms including nausea, dizziness, and headaches.

In your situation, this reaction started one year ago, so it is less likely to be related to genetics. I suspect that you have rosacea. Rosacea is a relatively common skin condition occurring most commonly in fair-skinned Caucasians. It often starts after age 30. It may be hardly noticeable at first, with the redness showing up after drinking alcohol, eating spicy foods, sitting in the sun, or being exposed to cold wind.

A lot of people turn red when they drink. It's just a flush. Alcohol causes your blood to circulate differently. For instance, if you're cold and you drink brandy because it tastes "warm" you'll actually make yourself colder because of the effect of the alcohol on your body.
It could be more noticeable on Asians because their skin might be different. I'm not sure of all the exact physical differences between races. However I know a lot of light-skinned Irishmen who get red when drunk too.

It relies upon on the guy, even though it really is real that a majority of Asians have a harder time dealing with alcohol of their gadget. it really is better of an Asian element, yet also very a lot a relations element. i understand a few households whose mothers and fathers drink for all time and their sons are not very bothered by alcohol. As for the "Asian pink" or "Asian pink," i'm getting it even after a litttttle bit, and it runs in the relations. i imagine my dad is allergic to alcohol. you does no longer believe our low tolerance: I turn completely pink and seem sunburned after 0.5 a bottle of Smirnoff Ice, and my face starts off burning up. it really isn't any longer merely each few months, both.

Alcohol increases the flow of blood to the skin by dilating blood vessel that lie near the surface. Anyone may "turn red" after drinking alcohol. It isn't limited to Asians.

There is an enzyme a majority of them are missing that does not allow their bodies to metabolize alcohol which causes this reaction. I cannot remember the term, but I read about it once on the internet.
