Im Chickahominy from Eastern Va and my tribe spoke Chickahominy for over 8 thosand years. We no longer do, but we still incorporate more native worlds in our language than most other English speakers.

Also my tribe, my grandparents and even our current chief have insisted that we were the first tribe that the Europeans came in contact with when the landed in East Va. They tell us that Powhatan (Wahunsonacock) was our chief (they called him Powhatan cause they couldn't say is name). I dont know how true it is. But if so, this means Chickahominy was the first language that many of the new Brittish in America learned to speak. However, the Pumunkey's (our bothering neighbors) also say Powhatan was their chief, so who knows.

I asked my older sister, she said that we (us & the Pumunkeys were once the same tribe)

I hope this helps!

Original language of the USA is English because it was a part of England at one time before it won its independence in the 1770's. While there were languages spoken on the continent earlier, it was not yet the USA, so they cannot be counted as original languages of the USA. They were languages of the nations that preceded the USA.

Although English is the official language today, in the days of the constitution ratification it was a vote between English and German. Obviously English won, but it was a tight race.

Believe it or not, English wasn't the first foreign language spoken in the Americas, it was Spanish and Latin as spoken by the christian invaders. Nahuatl was the official language of the Aztecs.
