No, Varicose veins are weak spots in your veins, massaging these areas will not help. Weak valves in the veins don't function properly and it causes pressure inside these veins causing them to become weak and expand. Nothing can be done to fix them unless they are severely engorged or bad, their is a type of surgery but it is rarely used unless it is a threat to your health. There are things you can do to prevent or at least help slow down this by exercising, don't cross your legs when sitting for long periods of time, do calf raises, those kinds of things will help.

I had a varicose vein that got WORSE after masage. I am getting it operated on next week. I think surgery is the only option.

NO VERICOSE VIENS ARE DEAD OR DAMAGED VEINS AND CAN ONLY BE REMOVED BY A DOCTOR.

massage therapists are actually not supposed to massage over varicose veins. if you found one that did, they don't know what they're doin. It's a contraindication.
