Anyone who would respect and listen to a gay bishop's spiritual leadership would listen to Satan himself. Anyone who would consider respecting and listening to a gay bishop knows nothing about God or the Bible. My recommendation is a gay bishop needs Christ as he certainly doesn't have him yet.

Seeing that Catholic bishops are supposed to be celebate, a homosexual bishop will never engage in homosexual actions. The official Church teaching derived from the Bible is that homosexuality is not a sin, homosexual actions are the sin.
That being said, regardless of sexual orientation, aren't we all sinners? Why does it matter what the sexual orientation of a bishop is?
Some would say that these bishops might be more likely to molest children. Since the American media has made such a big deal out of this, it turns out to be a bittersweet victory for the United States. On the one hand, the American media has succeeded yet again in victimising Catholics (I still have no idea why the media gets such a buzz off of undermining Catholicism). On the other hand, they now force the Vatican to make a sweeping statement that all homosexual clergy are not allowed. The two have very little connections, because pedophiles are generally not homosexuals but rather, suffer from a mental illness.

I'd like to answer your question, but I have a few questions of my own that need answering before I can really work this out...
What will happen to priests who sexually abuse little boys and girls? Will they go to heaven just because they repent but an openly gay bishop who "lies with another (adult) man" and is honest about it will burn eternally in hell?
Since it is Leviticus that says that homosexuals should be put to death... I need to know if that is the same Leviticus that says that offenses such as trimming your hair, eating shellfish, or planting two crops in the same field are also "abominations" punishable by death, but that owning slaves, sacrificial animal slaughter, and personally killing those who violate "God's eternal and unchanging law" are all just hunky dory?
To "Jack S" and others who agree with him - what made you decide to be straight? I can't think of anything in this world, even God telling me directly that could make me attracted to other men, do you think you could just "become gay" if you decided to?
and, most puzzling of all to me - why did God create people who both loved their Lord and were homosexual? God doesn't make mistakes does he?

Gay men in secular society is one thing, but not in a religious vocation. Religion is suppose to be the source for a person's spiritual growth and renewal. Until the Bible says that homosexuality is not against God's plan, law and has His approval, I would not belong to any religion that had a gay bishop. It would be an oxymoron... (look up the word)

The Catholic Church believes there is nothing sinful about being homosexual. But homosexuals like all unmarried people are called (by thousands of years of Jewish and Christian tradition) to celibacy.
The Church specifically says that homosexuals "must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided."
Because of the Catholic Church's stand, I have no problem with a gay (or straight) bishop as long as he is celibate.
With love in Christ.

Think about this: it seem everyone has the truth and every body is right. If that is the case, no body is wrong. Then why is the world in such a mess? Some people want to either deny the existence of God, as if that could happen, or create a god in their own image; that way they remove accountability, and do whatever they want. God created man in His image and we are accountable to Him. He has the last word. Seek the Truth with all your heart, and leave no stone unturned, and you will find it. Be good.

A person's contrabution to society is much more important than any single part of his person. A gay or a hetrosexual person in the role of a leader of one's faith should give an excellent example and since the bishop took a vow of celebacy, he should follow it!

I have no personal problem with it. The church is progressing more than most people think, and homosexuality is not an abomination, ignorance and hate are. We believe in a loving God. We are created in his image. Also, priests and nuns take their vows toward God very seriously, it is a marriage to God..So therefore, once a man becomes a priest he is no longer gay or straight, he is married to God and the church.

Merely being gay is not a sin. If he remains chaste, I don't care if he's a part of the clergy or not.
Actually, gay clergy prove that the Catholic Church is not nearly as anti-homosexual as some propagandists would like others to believe.

See the work entitled "Conjugial Love" or "Marriage Love" by Emanuel Swedenborg. True Marriage Love comes from the marriage of Good and Truth in God. It is between a man and a women. What God has joined together, man will not put asunder.
