I've heard a lot of different answers to this before, I want to see what you people have to say.
BTW, this isn't a debate about whether or not the Bible is the 'Word of God'--I want to hear what the term 'Word of God' means in the first place. Thanks

the statement derives from John 1:1 which says:

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."

...The Bible is God's teachings how he wanted them expressed, simply because HE [God] wrote it. (through various different people ofcourse, but he told them what to write.)

"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness," 2 Timothy 3:16 (NIV)

"Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit." 2 Peter 1:20,21 (NIV)

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God." Collossians 3:16 (NIV)

He replied, "Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it." Luke 11:28 (NIV)

First off, The Word of God is the Scriptures. It is the divine Word that God put in man's heart to write it on scrolls and tablets long ago. There is no way someone just out of the blue wrote it as a part of there fantasy. God gave each and every word in the Bible. That my friend, is the meaning of "The Word of God".

I am a christian and what i mean when i say that the bible is the word of god is this: When the bible was first written down, it was God who inspired the people abot what they should write. Those men were supposed to be very spiritual men who were led by God.

When Christians say it is the 'word of God' what they really mean is that it is 'inspired of God' - Namely, all the people who wrote it were either wittnesses to the divine work of the Lord or were being divinely inspired and prophesised to by him directly.

God inspired it, thus the Word of God.

God spoke to his Prophets and it was recorded in the Bible. You must also realize that many of the Prophets were illiterate so they had it written by scribes of the day.
