If the dog is barking anywhere around your home, your dog probably thinks it is protecting you. Strangers knock on the door, people who belong there come inside without knocking, right?

There really is no way of stopping this outside of keeping the dog outside of range from the knocking sounds. This may prove difficult. I live in a large house and My dog barking is sometimes the only way I would know someone is knocking at my front, back or side doors.

A doorbell would be a temporary fix until the dog learns that it indicates basically the same thing. After that, they will bark at that too.

Dogs bark at postmen because it works,.....that is the postman goes away. Your dog does not realise that the postman would go away after he has dropped your mail anyway.

Forget about making him stop barking.....he is a dog and dogs bark.
Make friends with your postman and ask him if he would help getting your dog to stop. Take your dog out to meet the postman as often as possible. Before he gets to your door tell your dog that "postman" is coming, lets go and meet him.
Take treats with you and slip some to the postman to give to your dog. Make the encounters as pleasant as possible for your dog. You could even have a really exciting game with him (the dog!) immediately afterwards.

My dog used to bark at the postman every day - until we gave the postman a box of dog biscuits and he would bring my dog one daily. The dog learned this quickly and then not only did she stop barking, but he would sit and wait for the postman to come and then, once he got his bone, ran to the neighbor's house and waited by their mailbox for another bone! They're not stupid!

Is your dog trainable...?
if you can train your dog to sit and rollover...you can train your dog not to bark at the postman.

if your dog is untrainable and you are unable...
keep in mind the postman comes just about the same time every day... during that time, you can always close your dog into a certain room until the postman is gone.

If you want him to quit barking at the mail man, you have options. Get a barking training collar ( make sure it is the right kind and set to the proper setting for your dog). The other option is get rid of the dog. The dog is just being protective over you and the house sometimes we need to respect that.

Try spraying your dog with a water bottle or shaking a soda can with pennies in it (or any other loud noise to get your dog's attention) every time she/he barks at the postman. After distracting your dog tell him/her to do something else and when she/he listens praise him/her for doing good. Always be consistent and you should see results real fast.

you can get specials collar to control dogs barking. I know they sound evil but they arent cruel at all and are recommended by proffessional to control your dogs barking. There are 2 types of available one squirts out a liquid and the other gives off a high pitch noise that can only be heard by dogs. They really do work. Good luck x

My dog used to always bark at the mailman and any other people that would come by our house. He was just nervous because he didn't know who they were and thought they were invading our territory. One day I asked the mailman to come up to my dog and pet him for a minute. I also gave the man a treat to give to my dog. Ever since then, my dog doesn't bark at him because he knows who he is. Now they are friends.

You can buy special collars that emit a high pitch every time the dog barks, He would soon associate this with barking and therefore not bark so as to avoid the noise

you could always dress up like a postman, so your dog things postmen are nice hahahaha.

Or buy a new dog, or tell the postman to stop trying to f**k your dog when you go to work, that way your dog won't hate him anymore.
